PC GAME MADE BY LYNCH
Published (2009-12-10 04:20:00)
There are some hints that Mulholland Dr. could be a combination of observed and imagined scenarios by an unseen person (well, maybe we get a glimpse of her; there is a blonde woman seen in the window of the apartment building behind Winkies). But if Lynch had this idea in mind he certainly didn't make it obvious or develop it very well.

The lesbianism spoils this movie
Published (2009-12-06 16:53:00)
The scene definitely felt out of place. Especially since no real indication that either of the characters were lesbians, let alone attracted to each other, was given prior to the scene. So on the first viewing (especially since I didn't know anything about Lynch prior to watching MD the first time) the scene was a WTF moment that felt completely exploitative. I don't know. Throughout the first half of the movie, the two women are so...

Femme Fatale Femme Fatale Femme Fatale Femme Fatale Did I say Femme Fatale? Spoiler ahead: . . . . . . . . . At the end of Femme Fatale, you'll find out that it's only a dream, and this one has a happy ending--the girl gets the girl AND the money.

Le Mepris

Tee-hee. But Lynch never leans on his refs that hard, I think, many of the ones in this movie are just in passing. That said, dusting off my years-old memory of Le Mepris , I can certainly see a similarity in the extensive non-verbal communication between the couples in both movies, and in the choices that are put to them.

I completely agree with your "interpretation". A good one. Thanks. The film is incredibly complex, but it all makes sense and can be understood. It's refreshing to see a post that didn't come from the whimpering troll brigade. "FUNNY HOW SECRETS TRAVEL..."

How can a film evoke that type...
Published (2009-12-08 15:20:00)
For me the emotional power of the film lies in its depiction of how we would like our life to be, our dreams, hopes, wishes etc and the true hard even cruel nature of reality. The gap that exists between these two extremes of experience is brutally exposed in this film. This is both true on a macro and a micro level. On a macro level of course Betty/Diane failed to be an aspiring actress, get the girl of her dreams and be the queen bee. On a...

THE SCARY PERSON BEHIND WINKIES

Does anyone think the the scary hag behind Winkies is the rotting corpse of Camilla? Diane in her dream knows she is dead so this could be her guilt manifesting itself. IMO.

Love Moulin Rouge and Mulholland Drive (obv). Donnie Darko was really good and powerful the first couple times, but I didn't care for it after that (and I hated the director's explanation and directors cut). Punch Drunk Love and Battle Royale were all right. Didn't care much for A History of Violence and haven't seen the rest.

This is very interesting, funny I didn't notice the similarities considering Adam Kesher's uncanny resemblance to Godard. Referencing Bardot's iconic red towel and of course the wig...I think there could be something to this And you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!

This has been suggested. But perhaps that would suggest that the old couple is somehow connected to Camilla since they come out of the blue box in the bum's bag. I suspect Lynch originally intended the bum to be some aspect of Camilla (hence casting a woman in the role). But most come to the conclusion that the old couple is linked to Diane Selwyn, suggesting the bum is an aspect of her psyche...

I can understand that but personally it worked for me perfectly. This was nice reminder from happier times in Lynch films (Sandra & Jeffrey in BV and whole Twin Peaks world). It is over the top but I love that in Lynch film. Somehow he manages to do that. Naivety is damn hard to pull off. He knows how to do it, at least I feel comfortable with it. Maybe I just allow it when it comes to Lynch. ...
