Earlier I can find is Aug 15 2004 but it's after the release of the Director's Cut (by this point the movie had become very well known): http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/donnie_darko/ At that time it was 79%. Today it's 84%. So, maybe it started from 65% or somewhere close? edit Using my 1337 hacking skills :p earliest found 06 Aug 2002:...

Because they tend to explain a lot of stuff that was left ambiguous in the theatrical cut, and some people preferred the mystery. Personally, the only problem I had was how they explained the bit about the cast waking up at the end--that was unnecessary.

Crash is soooooooo overrated! Best picture? Gimme a break! Everybody hates everybody. The end. No lessons learned, everybody still hates everybody. . Terrible movie. And I was so sick of hearing that Sandra Bullock has her big acting turn in Crash, just because she yells and says curse words. Yelling and curse words apparently equals a riveting performance.

7/10 max though, it's way overrated Sir, your wording is confusing. Are you saying that your 7/10 rating of the film is "overrated"? Because that would also be incorrect. Much like labeling a movie "overrated". " Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and rot in Hell ."

Crowe did do a fabulous job I'll give him that, and Jennifer Connelly also pulled off an amazing performance (I think she got an Oscar for that one?), I just didn't care for the film itself.

It sucked!!

What's truly weird is that anyone would take the time (okay, so it was probably twenty seconds, but there's still the 'motivation' aspect) to go to the forum for a movie that they didn't like and start a new thread about their feelings. I mean, there must be thousands of movies on this site, which means there are many thousands not to like. Should a person go to every film which, in their considered estimation,...

I don't get the point of this. You say nothing new. In fact, I think what you describe is how most people view this movie.

A huge number of independent films thesedays (Sundance films especially put a bad taste in my mouth; I just think most are mediocre)

Don't know if I can explain it agentad. All art is subjective isn't it?
For me, who is not a teenager, an EMO, angry with the world or any other pigeonhole some people want this movie to put us in, it is just a beautiful work of art, both in story telling and in vision.
I can still identify with Donnie (I was a teenager once!) and I can still find something new in the characters and the ...

Well that would be your opinion. In my opinion its a 10/10 So I guess I could argue its underrated if I wanted to (I wouldn't) . Im not saying your opinion of the movie is false, just saying its way overrated is.

The extra footage actually makes the film better, but they also inserted new sequences where you will read passages from the book "The Philosophy of Tme travel". Also, changes had been made with some of the music pieces and the sound editing: For example, the very first scene with Donnie laying on the street, standing up and smiling has been completely abused in the Directors Cut, because the ...

Yes it's the best version, those extras that are being left out are of little value.
Mad World video clip --> go to youtube
Deleted Scenes --> 90% of them have been inserted into the Director's Cut
Website Slides --> just go to donniedarkofilm.com and explore it by yourself

I think its really hard to wrap your mind around it because you are trying to understand it how it fits logically, which does not work when dealing with the paradoxes of time travel.
Where was the first jet engine from anyhow?
There is no first engine, it was always the same one.
This jet engine is from the future and from a tangent universe, that means it shouldn't be in the ...
