Oh, that's a bad subject for me. Good comedy is very hard to find. The last movie where I remember laughing the whole time through was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang by Shane Black. Highly recommended. Oh, and Three Kings. If you want to see why Ben Stiller is playing the same role for the last 15 years or so, go see Flirting with Disaster by the same director. Not the greatest comedy of all time but I liked it when it came out and I'm always...

Sadly these days reviews can't always be relied upon even just to describe that well. Some reviewers are either paid to write what the studios want or they make it up without seeing the film. Quantum of Solace was the final straw with reviews for me. I read 3 or 4 that all said QoS had 'barely any action' and was primarily about Bond's emotional journey following the loss of Vesper. That got me very excited for the film but...

I would not have known it was a comedy if you hadn't started this thread. One person in the screening was laughing sporadically, most people were deadly silent. Oh and half a dozen people walked out. Best Film District 9 Best Actor Sam Rockwell(Moon) Best Actress Drew Barrymore(Grey Gardens HBO)

LOVED kiss kiss bangbang. PERfect film. robert d. was his usual great but wasn't val kilner just a total delight in that role?for me, it joins the gay performances of john lithgow(garp), kevin bacon (jfk),philip seymour hoffman (capote and the deniro one),javier bardem (before night falls), both leads in brokeback mntn.,and wesley snipes, john leguizamo and patrick swayze (all in julie newmar) . but i'm going WAY off topic here. You still can read reviews to get a better sense of what the movie is like. Or ask a friend. But again, to only look at a trailer and then be surprised by what the movie is really like! I mean, come on, trailers are promotional ads for movies! It's pretty accepted that they are often misleading. You must be the change you seek in the world. -- Gandhi

Published (2009-12-01 07:18:00)
In a feature at IFC (Independent Film Channel) naming Matt "Actor of the Decade" Matt's work in the Informant is discussed. I thought fans of the movie, his performance, or acting in general might enjoy this excerpt. Damon's work in "The Informant!" extends his interest in performance and self-delusion, but in the withdrawn nebbish mode. Mark Whitacre's body is a walking punchline, a marvel of...

First of all, my audience laughed more than 1-2 times. But I agree, it's not really a comedy, though I do think "goofy" and "quirky" apply. But it never ceases to amaze me that people go to a movie knowing nothing about it than what they saw in a trailer and then are surprised and upset that the movie is different than they expected. Deciding on a movie solely based on the trailer is a ...

I agree completely! (spoiler) My favorite scene is the one in which his bosses comes into Whitacre's office complaining about Agent Shepherd and he's trying to put up a big front, when he gets a phone call from Shepherd himself. His differing reactions, first to his bosses, then to Shepherd, then to his bosses again, each played so seamlessly and in such quick succession! It's a fabulously ...

It's not a standard soundtrack, where the goal is to push the emotion being evoked by the onscreen action. Hamlisch described it as the soundtrack to Whitacre's mind. The James Bond musical elements are there to accompany his vision of himself as a hero. When you watch it with that in mind it's quite funny. Like the narration, it's giving you clues as to Whitacre's true state of being, which ...
