I agree that the child knew what she was doing . . . up to a point. She certainly knew her words were going to hurt her father, though there is no way she could have understood all of the subterranean intrigue going on at that table--heck, no one at the table understood it all. As a grad student studying PTSD and trauma, I can only imagine what Tobey has experienced. At the end of the movie, he most likely was no longer his true self. He had to adapt to his environment in order to survive, which ultimately provided him the power to kill his friend. It all was supposed to be about the PTSD and how everything went down. I think the trailer did a great job at grabbing on peoples hearts and showing there was a possibility of an affair, thus getting more people to see the movie. You got to remember trailers are to get people to the movie, not really explain every detail of it (even though most is pretty obvious from the trailer).

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS* I've mentioned this before, but I'm actually very glad there was no sex scene between Gyllenhaal and Portman mainly because he was Maguire's brother, and Portman had been in love with Maguire since she was 16 years old. Also, if they were to have sex, I thought it was going to be at that scene when they kissed, and that would have been worse because she still believed her husband was dead at that part....

It doesn't matter if Tommy and Grace ever slept together, the little girl said that to get her father upset, just like she was. She was hurting and lashed out on the person that was causing her that hurt. It actually was very realistic and understandable

It's up to you. I saw "Brothers" and it's a very downbeat movie. It does not have a happy ending and there are no easy answers. I saw it as a more accurate portrayal of what often happens to soldiers after they return home from being deployed than most other war movies I've seen.

my husband is in the marines and i loved this movie... if tobey maguire isn't nominated for an oscar then i will be very upset... this movie was so moving and just such a great film... it deserves to be recognized. Amazing film

i think they messed up the american version by putting so much emphasis on a non-existent love triangle.
after seeing the original (which i saw after the remake) i felt more closure. the first thing that was clearer to me was the fact that it starts and ends with a brother in prison. the american version puts him in a military facility so that does not have the same effect. his finally ...

it's almost an exact copy
but the danish one feels less like a soap opera, and obviously has a much smaller budget.
i highly recommend it

This wasn't really a laughing type movie.

i know!!! but sadly this movie took itself soooooooooooo seriously. it could have been fun & much better if it wasn't so dreadfully serious. i was waiting for one of the people that shoveled the snow to be revealed as the true father! something like that.
