When Deckard rings up Pris from his car and she appears on his vidscreen, he's using a type of onboard computer so I suppose it could be considered a personal communication device. Still not quite a cell phone but certainly not a land line either. And the juke box plays. Apocalyptic be-bop.

Yeah, a vidphone would be a higher technology than regular audio communication. Perhaps that's why they used it. Because it's more futuristic. _______ "There's nothing you can know that isn't known." -John Lennon

I choose Blade Runner. While it actually might not have invented anything truly new - its lighting and cinematography, the rotating ceiling fans, startled pigeons, its succesfull integration of the '40s look, its music, its tone of decay which is sad yet beautiful at the same time, its visualisation of the futuristic neon lighted city, its potpourri of every thinkable style, its presentation of the artificial life that's been led to...

I feel the same way about it. I have the Final Cut DVD and was just amazed at how well they remastered it too, really a beautiful film, even if you're not thinking about all of the underlying themes etc. and just watching it for the imagery and music. It's really a masterpiece and the attention to detail is just stunning.

I really love this film, its message, its atmosphere and everything else. But, for me, what makes it really special are all the little things. Like, for instance, the way Sean Young is pronouncing her lines and putting the emphasis on certain parts, or the magnificent shot of Deckard taking a sip of his tsingtao after getting beat up by Leon; the lighting and the way his blood flows into the glass is just beautiful! I also enjoy the scene in...

Definitly. If you feel like you should watch it again. Then by all means, watch it again.
A lot of things start coming together and you'll start picking up on some of those underlying themes and, most importantly, realize that it's not a thriller or an action movie, more along the lines of a future-noir.
Please, watch it again. Nobody ever gets it at first. Nobody.

First time, you say? A lot of first time viewers pay only attention to story, events and sympathetic characters. However, by the time you've watched the Final Cut, you probably think differently about this movie, no matter what version. In his very early period, Scott used film (especially mise-en-scxE8;ne) to express emotion. The story of his movies merely served as a structure. With other words...

The one point that I never see mentioned with regards to the spinners, is that the only flying cars in the film were police cars. It stands to reason that if such technology is available that only the government would have it in a world as oppressive as Blade Runner. No one ever seems to get that the world is pretty screwed up (in the film). And I've pointed this out many times but I don't see ...

I think that Blade Runner is one of the visually most impressive and beautiful films ever captured. Almost every shot in it could be enlarged, printed and shown in a museum of fine arts. The attention to detail is stunning, and sadly one of the reasons why filming took longer than anticipated, causing the film to go overbudget. On the other hand, as one of the producers admitted in the DVD ...

Crazy as a loon though. I bet if you kissed her she'd bite you then start uncontrollably crying. Then calmly ask you if you're hungry. You say "yes", so she says "Oh, I'm not" then goes and fixes herself a drink.

honestly, in terms of atmosphere, blade runner is in a league of its own.
however, here are a few other sci-fi movies off the top of my head:
children of men has a very dark universe but is closer to the present. give it a shot if you haven't already.
if you're a phillip k. dick fan, check out minority report. while it's a rather loose adaptation of the short story, it is also rather "...

It's a reasonable explanation, however I'd harly call this an "obvious plot point."

I'm still disappointed that my local Blockbuster only carries the '97 DVD for rent. I mean, I have the Briefcase DVD set and the Blu-Ray, but what about people who haven't ever seen this movie and want to rent it? they're not going to see the movie the way it is really supposed to look, they're going to see a really s**tty transfer with crap sound. Awwww. You're "thoughtful" criticism said you didn't like Deckard's voiceover, and yet you're upset of finding out the ending of a completely different version with a completely different ending . Troll FAIL.

I'd like to think so. But I'm still waiting. Last year I heard talk of a film based on William Gibson's 'Neuromancer' but that seems to have died down.
Reaction time is a factor in this, so please pay attention.

Not sure how far we will get with this but I'll start:
Steven Spielberg : "I thought Ridley painted a very bleak but brilliant vision of life on earth in a few years. It's kind of acid rain and sushi. In fact, it's coming true faster than most science fiction films come true. Blade Runner is almost upon us. It was ultranoir."

i would assume its pretty kick ass, ive read nothing but rave reviews for the blu ray version of Blade Runner. I own the regular dvd version myself and it is pretty good looking on there, but i just got a ps3 so Blade Runner Blu is my first pick on the blu's.
