Although that flicker ["Stolen Hours"] is a watchable soaper, it irritated Davis that she was working with Susie just after Hayward had 'cashed in' by re-making her 'masterpiece' They did NOT get along during shooting.... Even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream

Actually, in many of her films, she pronounces endings of words with D as T. Its a Massachusetts/southern New England/southern New York/New York City trait. She comes from Mid-Massachusetts and lived in New York City, when she was young.

No one walked like Bette Davis indeed - probably because she wasn't very tall, she developed a very direct, assertive walk that served her well on- and off-screen - before she was slowed-down by illness, she would stride onto a talk-show set, right hand extended to greet her host or hostess. "Remind me to tell you about the time I looked into the heart of an artichoke."

Hopefully they will show The Menace one day then. TCM here in Australia is a poor relation to what most get to see in the US. I am kicking myself, about 18 months/2 years ago they showed The Rich Are Always With Us,i couldn't find someone to tape it for me,since then TCM here has only shown the more mainstream Bette movies which are already out on DVD.

I never saw Bette's appearance on AHP.
Interesting time of her career that Bette was on this show. For in 1958 when the episode was filmed, wasn't a time where Bette had a lot of work to do.

Maybe the fifth candidate would have been:
1. Judy Garland (Wizard of Oz) or
2. Marlene Dietrich ( Destry Rides Again) For the biggest comeback of the
year!!

Most of the films she did in the 60s are on youtube. The Anniversary, The Nanny, Hush, Hush Sweet Cherlotte, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane and Dead Ringer. They're all enjoyable.
From the 40s,I've seen A Stolen Life, Beyond the Forest, The Great Lie. I think The Letter has been uploaded. I have to check on that one.

Definitely prefer Joan Crawford. She was a better actress, better person, and far more interesting. Joan is one of the most under-rated actresses of her day. So subtle, so into her characters, but never over playing. Her characterizations are superb and miles ahead of the their time. She is in the same league as the greatest, for me, along with Barbara Stanwyck and Katharine Hepburn.

No word yet from Warners about #4 - I was hoping they'd do a set with her important Warner Bros. "journeyman" films of the early/mid-1930s -including THE MAN WHO PLAYED GOD, BORDERTOWN, and DANGEROUS, but BORDERTOWN has already been released through their Warner Archives, as has IT'S LOVE I'M AFTER, so I'm less hopeful than I was for such a set - the only other major 1930s films are KID GALAHAD, ...
