Very well done. The music you used worked fine- but without a touch of Rozsa's magnificent soundtrack the trailer felt a bit incomplete. Good job though.

Heston should be the best because when we remember Judah.. we don't think about Heston. His impact made the the movie and characters describe themselves more elegant and more time-independent way.

I cant imagine another actor of the time having the dedication to do properly all the work that Heston did, learning to drive chariots and so forth. There is only one shot in the movie that he is doubled and thats the jump over the chariot wreckage....the fact that it is actually him in all the action footage adds considerably to the realism of the film. As for Marlon Brando...i dont see it...he was not an actor who came across well in period...

I think Lancaster turned it down because he was an atheist and didn't want to do any film promoting the Christian faith.
As to Brando, he would have been superb in the role. I am a Heston fan (great respect for him both on and off the screen), and Mr. Heston was marvelous as Judah. Heston was dedicated, patient, hard-working, and could take direction. However, despite his eccentricities (...

I wouldn't call myself a Christian, even though I'm religious, because I'm not sure about who Jesus was. But the Christian elements in this movie are supposed to be there. There might be a bit too much Christian talk in the end, during the crucifiction scene, but in the context of this movie, it's not a big deal.

This is pathetic? It's actually your TV that is pathetic. This was meant to be shown on a cinema screen with a 2.76:1 aspect ratio. Alas, that's too wide for most people to view at home, but most of us are grateful that DVDs are made with original aspect ratios.

Warner originally planned to put it on Blu-Ray this year for the 50th anniversary, but decided not to so that they could create a new 1080p transfer for the movie, as the previous Blu-Ray transfer got a lot of negative attention.
It will probably come out next year, but I'm glad to see Warner is taking their time to make a newer, better transfer - and I think we'll all be pleased with the ...

If you get the opportunity, watch the 1925 silent version of "Ben-Hur." From what I have read, the chariot race from the 1959 version was almost identical to the earlier version. I have both movies on videotape, but haven't tried a comparison yet.
However, I can say that the silent version is every bit as impressive as the later one. The set, the chariots and horses, the thousands of ...

Hmmm, yeah... But otherwise, it sounds good enough. So maybe it will turn out fine anyway.

Probably you are right. But knowing human nature, someone, someday will think differently about this film and attempt a remake of it. And who knows...it may indeed be a better film...or at least a different interpretation. Supposing the remake is a superior film to the 1959 one...I don't think it's a contradiction to say that this really does not invalidate the 1959 film.
Ben Hur, 1959, is a...
