I just watched the scene again (gotta love DVRs.) I think the implication is that the clip fell out in the garment bag. Stephanie had the pistol in her right hand behind Monk. There was no way Stottlemeyer could have reached it. Instead it looked like he was fishing around on the bottom of the bag and found the clip.

If you read my post again, I DID say I was quite aware that the books are not the show, and the show is not the books. However I do like the author's approach to the characters, vs. all the 'shipping' that has been being posted on the boards lately. Try as I might, I just don't see Monk and Nat, or Monk and Sharona as a couple, with or without Trudy's murder being solved. Monk needs a lady more like the one from the...

I agree Melora is hott but I think Traylor is beautiful. I would love for Monk to get with Nat. I kinda hope he doesn't get reinstated though. I just can't picture him chasing after the bad guys. I mean literally chasing after them like he is in the promo. And I just can't picture Monk without Natalie. They are like Holmes and Watson, or more recently House and Wilson. You just can't have one without the other....

I think they'll end up together since it seems like they are kind of wrapping up the characters ie. Harold and Monk finally becoming friends, Sharona returning and ends up with Randy, Leiland getting re-married to T.K., now it looks like Natalie is next then with Monk finding out who killed Trudy

Mr. Monk goes camping is my favorite episode now mainly because I did not have to suffer thru Natalie's scenes which were so few compared to other episodes in this season. Yeah, you're right on all counts. But it was "typical" Monk. It held my interest because Stot was getting married, but had the premise been something else than it would have been similar to the adopted dog episode (yawn).

It bugged me from the start that Stottlemeyer's girlfriends name just so happened to be Trudy. I don't feel that's a coincidence. So you may be on to something.

The two don't look that much alike - Monk's Trudy was a blonde - Leland's Trudy has dark hair. But they are/were both reporters. Who knows what TK was doing 12 years ago?
Maybe she was an investigateive reporter too -- but if the killers killed the wrong Trudy, why didn't they try again?
I REALLY don't think Leland had anything to do with Trudy's murder though. I don't think he could be ...
