Depressed...starving and scared
Published (2009-11-06 19:01:00)
A lot of people react to the act of eating or have random symptoms but end up afraid of food because of it. If you can't deal with the fear and depression on your own you really should talk to your doctor about that. Not eating stresses the body which will intensify any health problems you have, and you can only undereat for so long before it becomes dangerous and being under nourished makes the depression even harder to deal wth.

remedies for lack of appetite
Published (2009-11-02 17:15:00)
I have been suffering from lack of appetite and nausea for quite a while.......i feel full after just a few mouthfuls. I am currently on fortisips and i am totally sick of taking the things. Are ther any alternatives to fortisips that have the same high calorific input in such a small amount (300cals in 200mls)? Does anybody have any ideas on appetite stimulants?

I am also the mother of three, married, and I completely understand your frustration. My kids are older, though I've had to deal with this when they were younger. My youngest is a teenage boy, and all of my kids are aware of my problem. A first I tried to hide it from them - even from my husband, but of course, that becomes impossible. I can only deal with it by either laughing at it (...

Hi Kat, Sorry things are going so miserably for you. I've been where you are and can say it does eventually get better. I took Asacol which really helped during my most acute part of my first colitis attack which lasted about 2 years. Changes in diet have helped me immensely. I eat only whole foods, no preservatives, no antibiotics, no caffeine, no gluten, no cow's milk, etc. You can ...

Hi Alex, an excellent post, thank you for sharing your 'cure'. Dr Aron suggests using Mesalmine and says it is very effective whereas you are using that and a lot of other things. Have you tried using Mesalmine on its own and it didn't work or have you just decided on a belt and braces job?

It's on my mind 24/7 also. I can't stop thinking about being constipated all the time. And how laxatives become less and less effective. Or how the laxatives, aggrivates my skin condition. Or the urination problems I'm having, the more backed up I get. The only way I found to beat it. Is to lie to myself. Tell yourself it's not really happening. That you are dreaming, and not to worry ...

hey,, I think it would be really important to get checked out in hospital or by your doctor, especially if there is blood in your stools, that sounds really concerning. I would personally be going to hospital and demanding to be checked out thoroughly even if you have to talk to a few doctors... make sure to mention your family history with gramps too....

Getting up a bit earlier sometimes helps. Have you tried the Calcium 3X a day with meals, and/or Imodium a couple of times a day. Maybe try it at bed time and again right when you get up. It does take awhile to kick in so taking it early enough it will be working by the time you need to leave may help. You might avoid breakfast until you get to work as eating tends to increase even ...

Typically the only constipation they do a colon removal for is severe slow transit constipation and those are typically people who go once or twice a month without laxatives. It is very hard to judge how much should come out based on how much went down. Much of the volume is water so how dry a stool is greatly effects the volume and you absorb a lot of the food. There are some bacteria ...

IBS is discomfort that can be as bad as pain but may be bloating or incomplete evacuation that comes with a change in bowel habit. Watery diarrhrea is usually not ibs. Farting a lot is not required. Just a change in stool consistency or frequency that has something uncomfortable about it. Some conditions cause diarrhea without the bloating or any other discomfort. That being said SIBO ...

Other than IBD has bloody diarrhea and IBS can cause non-bloody diarrhea there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two. I mean there isn't a particular consistency or frequency that only exists in one and not the other, they overlap a lot. Now on average you are more likely to find IBSers having 3-4 or fewer BM's a day (no matter what consistency) and it is a bit more likely to ...

You poor thing,i know exactly how you feel i have severe ibs and it is ruining my life.I have tried the antispasmodics you mentioned to no avail but there are other ones to and also some low dose antidepressants sometimes ease the pain you suffer. At times it is trial and error. If Diahorrea is that bad maybe you could try immodium,it seems to help some people. How is your diet at the moment,...
