Do I need bigger lash pads?
Published (2009-11-20 08:29:00)
Are the lash pads case hardened? I needed a thinner one for my P90 when I was setting up the pattern, so I filed it with a hand file to take off a few thousandths in the groove. I didn't have any other pads to use. I have about 8000 miles on it now and it still holds the lash setting. So if you have one that is too thick, I think it's OK to file it a little, very carefully and measure with a micrometer as you go. Correct me if I did...

No Im not saying that...sort of stretched my words didnt you.....?. I have tracked my Z with and without the rear bar..and havent noticed a big difference. If anything, it was easier without. We are discusing your early Z arent we? What Im saying is you will be able to take advantage of the rear bar more so if you have a fully balanced suspension. Perhaps more in line with what Europe was able to buy. To just throw on a rear bar wont make it...

oh and is it a bad idea to remove all of the sound barrier stuff, then get rid of the rust, then paint some flat black paint to seal it all up? i dont care if itll make the ride a little noisier... i just dont want to do it, and then down the road, find it serves another purpose i didnt know it did in the first place.

They don't need the gm mount, if still using the stock mount. A bump stop works well in place of the original strap bolted on the rt mount.

I think that's the sign of a bad seal in the MC, as you press slowly there's time for the fluid to ooze around and through the seal on the shaft. but when you stomp on it theres no time for it all to get out. as to bleeding, fluid getting out also would suggest air can get in through the same place, hence the need to bleed reguarly.
If you have a parts car sitting around, swap the MCs over ...

Well you could always use it as an investment if it is worth more. Just buy it fix it up and sell it for more.

Mostly they are taken off to get rid of weight.
the prongs if i remember correctly are bolted on the front but the backs I'm not really sure about, most people go bumperless or put the smaller 240 bumpers on

Is it running?
Pictures are kind of important on a thread like this. My 78 is pretty rusty but I drove it home from New Orleans to Baton Rouge and came with tons of parts.

Old Datsun 4x4 truck if you want to stay in the Nissan family. I'm personally a huge fan of Toyota trucks, would be cool if you could snag a 1 ton dually.

Every bit of trim on the car is new. The interior, although not in the car yet, is every drop new-old-stock. I hit the jackpot with finding every bit of the interior from Datsun. When I say every piece, I mean even the little fasteners and gaskets inside the doors. The dash. Everything. I went back with the stock color too. The bottom of the car is actually perfect tint-matched rhino-liner....

The head and block stamps you gave (F54/P79) are for an L28, and from the pictures you have yourself an L28 instead of an L24. Thought i would give you a heads up.

Early Z's were not equiped with sway bars from the factory. If I recall, the 260Z was the first to get it.
