Hi Beverly, Thank you for the nice post. I got my day in at work, I am glad. I don't feel too bad, a few aches and pains. lol... How are you today? I hope that things are going well for you. I know that you are going through a hard time right now. But you sound to be in good spirits. That is wonderful. I know, we have to continue on with life, right? I use to have a flower shop and a plant nursery. I use to sell a lot of wreaths in the...

mesalamine reaction?
Published (2009-11-08 23:53:00)
I agree that it sounds like you can't take mesalamines. If your GI won't entertain the possibility that you're allergic/intolerant to them, find a new GI ASAP! The CCFA website (www.ccfa.org) has a lot of good info on the meds used to treat UC, so you can research your other treatment options. Good luck!

I am so sorry your husband is suffering so. I had a bad day today too. I feel worse for my husband, he feels so helpless and hates to see me suffering like this. I pray your husband gets some relief. Where is his colitis? Mine is just confined to the rectum, but it is sooo painful. My GI doctor said the rectum is...

swimming pools make my eyes...
Published (2009-11-08 20:55:00)
Unfortunately it sounds like you may have an allergic reaction to the chlorine found in most pools. This is pretty common actually. If I had to choose between my eyes or a sport, you bet I would choose my eyes :) I'm sort of wondering aloud here but I wonder if putting vaseline around your eyes if that would prevent the water from irritating the skin. Or what about goggles, do you wear goggles?

Hey Countrymom, Many of us with Crohns also developed Fibro. What I have found that has helped my fibro pain the most is taking Vitamin D. I started reading about it and found that it is a great help for fibro. Started out taking 1000 units and and felt like I was getting a cold and bumped it up to 2000 units and the thing I noticed the most was that my fibro pain was SOOOOO much better. ...

Yup! I've heard that people in less developed countries who don't have toilets tend to have fewer problems with hemmies. Many docs theorize this is because they squat to poop, and therefore don't strain as much.

Foam pads help somewhat, but make sure it is plenty thick. They tend to wear down easily. I know what you mean about mattress problems. Mine is horrible, and right now I can't afford a new one. I wish I could. There was this amazing mattress in at Sears, and I want it sooooo much. But I just don't have the money for it right now. *sighs* Good luck to you. I hope that you are able to find ...

I often wondered if it was seasonal related too. There is a lot of asthma in my family history, psoriasis too. I first flared in Sept of 98. All my subsequent flares (too numerous to mention) have begone either in May or Sept.

Tammy, They can do an exam for fibro -- if you think that might be it, ask for an exam. :) One other option is that if you haven't gotten your hormones & thyroid tested, you might consider getting tested. I was totally messed up -- periods just completely random, joint pain everywhere, rapidly swinging moods, chills/hot flashes, migraines, etc., etc., etc. I felt so miserable, but I was ...

I'm home with the reports, which I have already forwarded to my doctors. The Radiologist said more to me then in the report, but I guess the doctors will have the images to view as well. They were unable to view my ascending colon at all, due to the "extremely redundant sigmoid and transverse colon". They saw no obstructions, strictures or masses (thank goodness) and he could not see a ...

Steve, Most diuretics will cause excessive urination, as does alcohol. The important thing for incontinence is to make sure you are getting enough fluid to sustain healthy living. I know some people will refrain from drinking adequate enough water just to avoid issues with incontinence, but that is not the answer. But that said, you don't need to quit the coffee, or the beer ~ at least for ...

Hi David, I've had a similar experience as well. The hospital fees are not just confined to serious procedures such as we have experienced. My wife had surgery on one of her fingers. The orthopedic surgeon cost about $2100.00 including 3 months of follow up visits. The hospital fee was around $11000.00. The only medicines were a local nerve block and some antibiotics, and less than 6 ...

There is a member who doesn't come on to post very often anymore, but her daughter had UC very bad to the point they were considering surgery. This little girl ended up getting pnemonia and was put on antibiotics. Once on the antibiotics, her UC started to clear up. The member's name is Hailey's Letter. As far as I know her daughter is still symptom free.

CG: I have been injecting B12 for over 25 years and never had elevated liver enzymes so I would have to guess its most likely the pain meds. I know you said you could not go without them, maybe try a different one? Sorry, this is all SO frustrating but dont get discouraged, you will get there. Take care D

Hi Gem, I am so happy that you got a new pdoc. I hope that everything continues to go well with him. I have a good one too and I really depend on him. Sometimes it is hard to find a good one. Pdocs can be strange sometimes. I had a really wierd one once. My mom had one that you couldn't understand when he talked. But I feel very fortunate for the one that I have. Very up beat and kind....
