Kibble W/ Or W/o Water?
Published (2009-11-26 19:22:00)
I soak mine in warm water for about (1) hour prior to feeding. They inhale their food. I also mix in either, greens or green beans, pumpkin, yogurt and a little canned food. CARI? Right now, eating brown rice, cooked chicken and a little kibble. **That might change by next week!!!

Advice Needed- Thryoid Levels...
Published (2009-11-26 15:55:00)
Review is a good idea! She may well need the thyroid meds, but it is worth noting that that type of hair loss is pretty common in greyhounds who don't have thyroid problems, and that thyroid meds tend to promote hair growth whether the dog needs them or not. Also worth noting Dr. Stack feels that a supplemented greyhound shouldn't be supplemented up into the range of other breed dogs (see her article at greythealth.com )....

QUOTE(krissn333 @ Nov 25 2009, 10:45 PM) Good to not add more right now...sounds like you might have the right combo! Did you note what time of day it was when she was so happy to eat? Maybe also make note of if she'd been doing anything directly before (had she just had a nice poop? Maybe a small romp in the yard? etc...). Oh, Mr. Pogo, your ma is coming to bed now! Greyhound Vet List
Published (2009-11-25 22:24:00)
Dr. Meaghan Swensen Lakes Vet www.lakesvet.net Lindstrom, MN 651-257-4030 Meaghan vets the hounds for Minnesota Greyhound Rescue, and she has had her own greyhounds for years. Currently she has 3. VERY knowledgeable about the specifics of the breed, and went through osteo with me on 3 of my personal dogs, plus one of her own this year. Priced very reasonably, in my opinion. Tell them that Minnesota Greyhound Rescue sent you, and they will...

Cooked Food?
Published (2009-11-26 18:47:00)
Once a week I do a crock pot for the three babies and mix it in their kibble. 1 c. brown rice 2 c. water 1 sweet potato cubed 3 zucchini's cubed handful baby carrots raw meat on top (boneless/skinless chicken or beef) When done, I put the meat in the food processer and then mix everything together. The only raw meat I have been doing is the raw turkey necks once a week as a meal.

Check this out... Dr Stack on Hock Fractures Both Bonks and Savannah broke their hocks racing. Bonks required a splint only, Savannah was in a cast for 6 months, was on antibiotics the whole time, she had surgery to put hardware in and again to take it out. Bonks has an odd gait, he puts his right leg down a little further out to the right... Savannah often hops, skips and holds her ...

I absolutely SWEAR by this stuff: http://www.petstruly.com/3307.html It sluffs off old skin and heals at the same time. I would use this, and try covering with a large bandage (non-stick of course). Cari came with many open sores when we got her. She was a mess. Now the Biotch of the house, and a true Daddy's Girl! Good Luck with Ollie!

Normally tendon injuries do heal extremely slowly. After the healing of the tendon, the hound has to start bit by bit the normal walking in order to reinforce the recently healed tendon. If that is done properly the tendon will be strong enough to resist normal exercise. A tendon injury requires at least 1 month of immobilisation and after that time another 3 weeks with a bandage and ...

Kathy, I left the list that Irene wrote out for what streets we covered with Paul, he is supposed to send it through when he gets home. We stayed until about 9:30, did a lot of house to house and some flyers on poles too. Artie is going to scout around tomorrow and see if he can find a way onto the railroad tracks. I want to hope she didn't go near them. I just want to say thank you ...

I would worry about a bunch of cooked bones. I'd feed bread and keep a VERY VERY close eye on him for signs of distress.

I would gve her a few more days and then transition her back to her food. Until then, feed her whatever she will eat. No sense making her tummy as miserable as her mouth probably feels.

I would bet on pack mentality but my 2 are both small dog safe and no way would I trust them with a small strange dog! I wouldn't even trust them with strange cats even though I trust them with our cats. Oh and about the kennel... I hope they don't plan on turning you dog out with ANY strange dog large or small. too risky if your not there to call the shots....

Ah! I'd forgotten to ask the vet about B12 injections. I've just written it down. Again. I'm thinking (but was too flustered to ask) that her "starvation" must be in part to malabsorption. I should have guessed. It seemed she was having to eat a lot at each meal to keep her weight on. Lori, I'm so glad to hear ol' Tucker is doing so well! Happy's almost his age. *crossing ...

My Alimony had over two hundred races, then went on to be a broodie. She's now eight years old, and is the picture of health and vitality. And she is a nut . She runs circles around my five year old girlie who had a career half as long, and no puppies. I would say any of your three options sound fine to me. Any dog can have health issues regardless of age. Yes, the odds of something ...

Several months ago, Tuna could no longer go up and down the stairs to the finished basement (which used to be her favorite area of the house) and she had some troubles on the steps going in and out of the house. By the way, she has DM. As the months have marched on, the weakness in her hind legs has progressed to a point now where she is very wobbly and can no longer manage the steps in and...

very contagious, you must pick up the poop and s pray it with bleach, also put a heavy layer of lime in the dogs yard and that will also do the trick, I had a grey with Giardia and it is a PITA to get rid off Good Luck
