Pears, The dolls were wonderful. Although I packed them very carefully, I hated putting them away. Museums have to rotate exhibits. It isn't possible or desirable to have the same artifacts on display for long periods. I certainly had my favorites among the exhibits. Sometimes I was happy to pack away the items on exhibit because they were ugly or unappealing. The hospital exhibit with the medical instruments and the porcelain bedpans...

Cat, The party sounded like great fun and I'm sure your arrangement of camellias looked wonderful as always. I haven't been to a party in a while now. Whenever there was a christmas works party to cater for at the hotel I worked for we usually had the privilege of joining the party as well, that is once everything was served and cleared away. It used to be great fun, those were the days! but I don't think I could party like...

the gardens were a major attraction for us, as was the food! We loved the dairy, which was converted into a resturant that served, when we were there, the kinds of foods the vanderbilts and their guests would have eaten. Had to have the recipes for those! LOL! I loved Longwood gardens too. Have you been there? The house is rather small, but the gardens! out of this world! We really enjoyed the home garden, where they have displays of what you...

Hi, Scott, Marlin is right. There is pros & cons on Southern AND Northern regions. Answering Maries's question, I live in southern side of freeze line, so I do not have freeze issue, but warm weather do not kill pests. I still have caterpilars on my veggies. Here more about Koi fish and BLACK Golden Fish in my pond I took them yesterday. Thanks, DSL6625

Starr, I think we are dopplegangers (mirror images of each other)! I, too, save interesting bottles for my herb vinegars. Really ruined my day when salad dressings started using plastic bottles! And cookbooks--oh, the joy of finding a rack of old cookbooks in an antique, second hand, or used book store! One of my favorites is Cane River Cuisine , a regional Louisiana cookbook assembled by the Service League of Natitoches. I had never made a...

thank you Marie. boy, i sure hope the cactus is reliable in the future. it was one of those 6 in. pots i got about 4 years ago and the last 3 years has had very few blooms. this summer it seemed to be thriving, but crowding the pot. so i repotted to a much bigger container and it really took off, and has had many flowers the last 3 weeks or so.

Yes, I received it. Used it. I felt it helped clean the air, but my symptoms did not improve, although the air seems 'lighter' when I use it. fwm

I have never done many crafts but i have noticed that cut English ivy holds up very well indeed. I still have sage leaves clinging to the plant.I was wondering about a fragrant wreath? Ok ,maybe not sage but perhaps some other herb worked into a wreath? Than again why not sage?I love the smell of sage. cheers

Scotty,
I think I invented collecting! My favorite things are antique pottery and antique pewter. When we lived in upstate New York I started collecting Albany Slip pottery, which is redware or clay pottery with a brown pearlescent glaze made from clay dug near Albany, NY. My husband said the price of Albany Slip went up as the pottery got closer to our house!
The pewter is more expensive,...

I guess you're not in the part of Texas that got snow. Lucky you. The leaves on your veggies look perfect. The baby cabbage is beautiful. I'm hungry now. The only thing in my garden right now is about a foot of snow and we're expecting more tonight. But I did bring in a beautiful pot of Vietnamese cilantro and I have my rosemary, so I don't feel so desolate.

Hi Erin,
I've never intentionally grown tomatoes indoors, but I have started
them too early in the spring and had my first tomatoes set indoors
before I could safely bring the plants out. I didn't do anything
special to mine expect give them lots of bright, direct light from my
grow lights.
Determinate or one of the smaller size tomatoes work best, because they

Pears,
I really enjoyed reading about your customs in the UK. I'm afraid the customs here will not seem as interesting in comparison!
I have always enjoyed decorating and growing up it was certainly fun. Christmas is South Georgia was different. I could go out barefooted to feed my guinea pigs in their hutch. Not typical for most parts of the world!
However, we always had a real tree. ...

Pears,
I will assume advice here applies also to the U.K. My last tree was a variety of fir and did very well.
When you buy a cut tree make sure the needles are flexible. If they break and don't bend it isn't fresh.
When you get it home, make a new cut in case sap has closed off the old cut. Put it in water and keep water in it.
Don't put it near a heater or vent. We forgot to ...

Eggplant, tomatoes and peppers come to mind. I'll consult a gardening book or two, and if more knowledgeable people don't post, I'll be back with more nightshade plants. The only poisonous parts of these plants are the leaves. Don't let your pets or children eat tomato leaves!

Peardrops,
Here in Texas we grow pomegranate trees (shrubs, bushes?). We have one that we planted last year, and another two or three are going in this year. I think I'll go read your description to the one growing by the herb garden. Maybe your glowing terms will give the little guy a boost!
