Turn it on, and then hold down the soft power key for about 20 seconds. It will reset the audio/video options. What probably happened is one of you is on an HD setup. The PS3 auto-adjusts video options for HD/SD setups and it just hasn't reset for your set-up. The holding down the power key is a shortcut to resetting these options.

Trying to beat the snowmobile level on spec ops got on my nerves a lot. You need a minute ten to get vet ranking and i kept getting like 1:10.05 and stuff.
