( Like the look of Google Chrome OS but don’t want to wait until late next year to buy a system running the new, web-centric platform? It’s only been a matter of hours since Google announced details of their new OS, but already there are a number of options for playing with the software. gdgt have put out a full VMWare image of Chrome OS to play with on an existing system, or alternatively you can go the whole hog for a...

( Week in review time again, here we go! The Lenovo IdeaPad Pineview netbook hit the FCC Monday . The FCC is one of the most prolific leaker of gadgets and gear around and we love them for it. The CrunchPad is now said to be steamrolling toward a launch and may have a sponsorship deal in place. Word was a few weeks back that the tablet was dead. ( Google has more than emphasized that its Chrome operating system will be super speedy; it will boot in only seven seconds and surfing the web will be just be quicker. The irony is that you will actually have to wait for Google’s OS to arrive and for a pretty long time in the technology world. After giving a preview yesterday of what is in store from the Internet giant’s computing platform, Google’s Sundar Pichai said that they are...

( Problem with cloud based computing is connection availability and speed. I don’t mind cloud for backup, since availability is not a problem for backup files, but my important must have file needs to be available to me when I need it without dependencies on internet connection factor \(especially large files\) How long would it take to put 4GB file on cloud and how long will it take for me to retrieve it on a wireless broadband?...

( We’ve been hearing reports that the Xbox 360 failure rate is as high as 30%. From what I’ve heard from other gamers, that unfortunately sounds pretty close to the mark. I love my 360, and I do my best to take care of it, but I always worry that one day it will bite the dust. With the failure rate that high on the Xbox, it makes us wonder what kind of failure rate the PS3 has. Chalk one up for Sony – PS3 failure...

( I’m not a fan of cloud computing and most likely never will be even if it ends up being stuffed down my throat like it might.
I am definitely not afraid of new things but I’m not going to jump on this bandwagon. I can see many people using this but if anyone seriously thinks Chrome OS will be a major threat to Windows and to a much lesser degree, Mac, they’re just being dramatic. , class="...

Maybe a change of font would do it good? Especially the “sym” “space” etc.

( As someone who has been running Windows XP as a primary operating system for the past eight years and has seen more netbooks with the dated OS in the last year or so, I was probably more excited about the arrival of Windows 7 than Twilight fans are about the upcoming release of the vampire packed New Moon movie. However, the last two netbooks I have gotten my hands on run the lower-end ...

( What makes color so important in a reader? I look at the big keyboard taking up 1/3rd of the screen and figure I’m just as well off with my HP iPaq PDA with its handy backlight that lets me read at night without disturbing my bed-partner. , class="poststuff"> Posted 19 hours ago # )

( Joanna,
It’s certainly fair to argue that these premium netbooks are underpowered, but at least in the Booklet 3G’s case, there seems to have been a deliberate focus on battery life/weight/design over power. I have found the Booklet 3G perfectly adequate for simultaneous Word, Exchange, and web use — typical analyst/information-worker/Slashgear-columnist usage — and in my limited testing so...

( This Quanta Android netbook looks really great! Put the full Chrome browser on Android taken from Chrome OS, and a few other optimizations for keyboard/mouse input instead of touch screen, and it could be perfect. Especially if sold below 200 dollars without 3G contracts needed. , class="poststuff"> Posted 2 days ago # )

( OK, I’ll be the cynic, here…
You mean to tell me that of the many people who complained about the autofocus, none of them thought to clean the camera lens? Not even as a basic practice of good photography or just because the darn phone was brand-new? No kidding?
Sheesh! Even if it turns out lens crud _wasn’t_ the true cause, I think this calls for dope-smacks, all around. ;\) , class="...

( Japanese accessory manufacturer Umazone have outdone themselves with a hard-drive caddy that will likely strike a chord with anyone doing regular software installs. The Umazone UMA-ISO looks like a regular 2.5-inch HDD drive enclosure; however it also has a small display and, on the side, a jog wheel, which can be used to flick through ISO CD and DVD images stored on the drive inside. ...
