Routing Logic of 2x5 vs. 7x5
Published (2009-11-30 21:45:00)
Remarks on Amazon are often from people who never really owned the device they're commenting on. I'll look at Amazon reviews, but don't depend on them. You'll get much better and more honest advice here.

You can search for Juan or Mex in your scenario and it will show up fine. There's some flakiness in the algorithm where it won't return nearby results on occasion, but that happens to me maybe twice a month and I search for POI for everywhere I go daily.

Just run POI Loader again, and you will see the option to remove all custom POI's.

Importing csv files to nuvi 750
Published (2009-11-30 22:09:00)
It makes perfect sense. If the .gpx file did not contain a route, it would not show up under Tools>myData. The only ways to get a route into the nuvi are to: 1. Import it into the nuvi from a .gpx file that contains a valid route. 2. Build the route on the nuvi itself The .gpx file can have favorites, routes or tracks (trip log) contained within it. The trip log is only exportable from the nuvi to MapSource and cannot be uploaded to the...

What is PEDESTRIAN MODE and how...
Published (2009-11-30 18:14:00)
Pedestrian mode - no idea. Magellan told me that you just disconnected from the power adapter and it will ask if you want to find your car again. I tried that and it didn't. Speed limits - no. Speed - yes. Tap the lower left indicator on the map and it will rotate between ETA, Speed, time to go, distance and some other stuff. Very useful and I wish everyone did it that way.

Strange map out of date warning
Published (2009-11-30 15:44:00)
Had that problem with the 2010.20 map update and my unit is always updated to the latest firmware...problem never went away. Every couple weeks the unit would give me the same message

recalculates for no reason
Published (2009-11-30 02:15:00)
I don't think it happens in the same location, however the only thing I think I remember ( I haven't used it in a while ) is that it happens right before a turn. The power switch has its days sometimes it goes off/on on 1st try other days it takes several tries.

Weather conditions don't have any impact on the satellite signal. I'm not directly familiar with that model to have any suggestions, but see our Acquiring Satellites page for more generic tips.

I have the 920T. I have used it for 2 years. Zero issues.
How did your traffic antenna socket break? Was the unit dropped? What is TomTom saying to you about the situation?

I saw that a few weeks back, but forgot about it. It is certainly a good possibility and as you know Garmin has done that before.

Its the dashboard disc. You attach it to your dash and then you can use the suction cup mount on it.

If you add a via point to the route, forcing the route you want, how does the ETA compare to the original route calculated? Be careful adding the via point on the interstate to avoid getting it in the wrong lane.

The Boulder is a pretty popular phone. Would have thought that somebody else would own both the Boulder and the 265wt. Maybe not!

I'd try using an external speaker. If you can hear the voice through the external speaker, then you most likely have a short or loose wire @ the internal speaker. Should be an easy fix. If it's a software problem, though...just don't know about that.

I haven't pulled up the manual to see what you see-- but it is automatic on the Garmin too. You don't need to tap anything for it to appear.

Not sure if you will find one to meet those specs. There seems to be some confusion as to how many stops you can input into a Garmin route.... I think it's 50 but elsewhere somebody suggested it might be higher. Certainly isn't 200 stops though.
The "accuracy" part is going to be more about the map and address data than about the GPS receiver. Most modern consumer units are spec'ed at 10 ...

Yes, although you can override it. In the Set Time Preferences there is a Sync button.

I have this and avoid unpaved roads checked. However as you can read in the discussions referenced above, this probably won't solve your problems. For some reason Garmin seems to estimate secondary road speeds faster than anything else I have seen . I have compared the travel times to google, mapquest, yahoo, and formerly an old Magellan before it gave up the ghost. This leads to it sometimes ...

Got a Dakota coming my way for $199, but might go for the Oregon 400 instead at $299. Haven't committed yet. Either is a great deal IMO. I really would have liked to take a look at the Delorme PN-40 to see how difficult it really is to use, but I don't know anywhere with a demo unit. They're also available for $199.
Of course no one cares about handhelds anymore

First - the setting for 2d vs 3d in the maps menu doesn't change anything with the maps themselves. It just performs a perspective transformation on the same data to simulate a 3d view, and it filters the detail a little differently, leaving some streets off.
The basemap on your unit is very crude and only has a few roads, state lines, maybe some very big rivers or lakes. The only time you...

Depends what you mean by "better". The TomTom 740 LIVE is currently the flagship model and gets live traffic info, uses Google Local search, can view current fuel prices and find the cheapest fuel, has a widescreen display, weather, etc.
