Anyone ever freeze crepes
Published (2010-01-04 08:16:00)
I thought they might.? Just as long as there was something like plastic wrap between each crepe.? I could do the same with some pancakes.? Pancake mix is cheaper than them premade pancakes.? Waffles I would not do. After cooked and frozen. They're to big for my toaster.? If I had a smaller waffle iron maybe.? But mine is round and bigger diameter than a Eggo Waffle.

Feeding your kids??
Published (2010-01-05 21:35:00)
Thanks so much for all the great responses.? For one thing I feel better just knowing I am not the only one.? Many nights I've felt like if I just made a better dinner or had a better response for my kids,?they would magically eat and be happy about it.? So it's nice to know it's not just me :-) We made some rules based on what I read here?and on day 2, it's so far so good.? I decided to switch to making dessert fruit or...

Yes, I know gluten can be an issue, sorry you have to add it back to her diet. Have you had any discussion with your pediatrician about the possibility of celiac?

Never shopping in Luxembourg again!
Published (2010-01-05 11:18:00)
Excellent sales!? I love European-style children's clothing; it is so cute and classic, but way too expensive here. I hope the Dollar to Euro exchange is better when we go on holiday; I would love to buy my kids some cute things in Italy!

Need Ideas: Christmas Greed
Published (2010-01-03 21:37:00)
we also do the 4 gift rule. Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read. That's the other variation. and my kids get 1 Santa gift. I let budget rule the total amount spent, but the total gift count is always the same in my house. This applies regardless of the parentage of the children, until they marry (that's a new rule as of this year). So some years, my kids get more than 1 thing to wear, but...

2010 Goals
Published (2010-01-03 15:47:00)
I didn't do this last year and I really want to be on the ball this year. Financial/Frugal Goals- James takes care of the bills, however I am in charge of the weekly household budget of between $220-240. This budget is to include all household expenses, including prescriptions, doctor's visits, groceries and dining out. It sounds like alot but it doesn't stretch very far with the high costs of medicine, copays and groceries. So...

frugal or no?
Published (2010-01-05 07:10:00)
I never took home ec in high school, but am teaching myself to sew. I found some cute patterns for summer dresses for the grandkids, but haven't gone to buy the fabric yet....do I haven't added up all the costs. Does anyone make their kids' clothes? I'm thinking it will be more for some items than picking them up second hard...but less than buying brand new, especially things like holiday outfits....is that about right?...

I don't find real vanilla extract to be very expensive when I buy it at Costco.
I am also hesitant about doing science experiments involving fermentation with cultures in my kitchen (I didn't get a good grade in Chemistry in school), so I would not be comfortable making my own cheese or yogurt.
I don't eat cured fish (aka lox or gravlax), but we do brine and smoke our own salmon. It is...

Johnathon really only gets toys at Christmas and his Birthday. Unfortuanly that is only 1 time a year, because his Birthday is the 14th and christmas is only 10 days later.
He may get some little things throughout the year and for Easter but not really anything significant. This year for Easter, Johnathon will get a bike, but that is because it is the time of year that he can really start ...

I'm both a biomom and a stepmom While I think a general knowledge that dad sends money to mom to help take care of them is fine....I think that telling the kids that you've covered their gifts would be overstepping big time. Child support is his share of their regular expenses (IMO) food, clothing, shelter, school supplies, etc. Extras like gifts, sports/activities,etc...are just that...extra,...

Ok, it is time for me to come back out of the shadows. I was here last year, and lost my way with the birth of our new baby in April. Six weeks off of work, unpaid, some postpartum depression and a bailout loan from my mother, which consolidated all of our debt, and I was officially off track. So I am back. I am determined that 2010 is going to be a better year.
My name is Janet, 29 and I ...

We've created a budget and made some adjustments (including halting 401k pay-in for the next year) We now have a plan moving to pay off the credit card (just one, maxed out) this year and the car (only other major debt) by the middle of next. It is very exciting! I think it's totally doable and not too many sacrifices will have to be made. In other words, I think we can do it and the time ...

Okay this month I am working on: 1. keeping the extra hundred in savings which will be a total of 112 (888 to go). 2. Not letting DH take me to work and me not taking him to school. So we can save on gas. 3. walk-jog 3-4 times a day. :) jessica

Congratulations!
Yes, babies can be frugal, or they can be wickedly expensive! I'm all for used baby things whenever I can, and if you breast feed, it's free baby food and a free diet plan for you! LOL

My total on groceries only for 2009 was $3813.17 for an average of $317.76 per month. This for a family of 5 for most of the year; 18yo ds went away to college in mid-Aug. and only was home for a few weekends plus his winter break now.
This is down from last year. My total in 2008 was $4285.39 for an average of $357.12 per month. I was surprised to see a decrease. I figured I was ...
