If you are eating off of dishes that are porous- you have more serious problems than Tide!! Non-porous dishes could be washed in arsenic, and if you rinse them, they are fine. My grandma used powdered dish soap. Soap is soap.

~You're in a tight spot and I can see how worried you are. I'm sure you have something to sell in your home. Nearly everyone has a dvd collection, cd's, musical instruments, books and collectibles that are rarely, if ever used. Start listing them on Half. com, Ebay and Craigslist. Sell your jewelry and furniture if you have to. I think you'll be surprised at how many people are buying! If you have two cars, sell one. Go to...

Oh man..... I was going to leave a snide remark about Greebo eating too many bon-bons and not cutting it himself (lol)..... and you have to go and ask a serious question!! I'm thinking that if you want to involve yourself, talking to the mom may not be such a bad idea....... and although I don't have any idea how to go about it, I am sure that others here will. btw - wtg on being aware of those in need around you.

When I was in college I kept 5lb bags around with no problem, but it was a dry climate. I also used the large bucket for a period, without absorbers, again in a very dry climate.
It tends to be humid where I live now, but my biggest problem is weevils.

I'd love a dictionary collection, that sounds awesome! The miniature shoes sounds a bit more odd than dictionaries to me - unless of course you have miniature feet.
We have a ton of books, but aren't really collectors of anything.

I like to bake it, covered in a dish with a little water, like you'd cook any other squash, and then put it in the food processor. Scrape it out of the shell and do it in batches. If you don't cover it, it forms a skin which you have to throw out.
I have not noticed that the food processor does any better job than my old blender or my handy chopper, or my stick blender, it's just bigger.

Well I love all the things you mentioned up there but I also really enjoy word puzzles like word search and crosswords, suduko's and I really love to throw myself in to a big 1000 or 1500 piece jigsaw puzzle. I know what you mean about the reading though. It seems to be feast or famine here. I find 10 or 12 books in a row I just love and read like a crazy person or I go months without being able ...

Our budgets get better as they mature.
That being said, I haven't really been keeping track of my Excel spreadsheet lately and we went over the budget for groceries. We did pay up on a lot of debt, so I guess that made up for it. I found out I overspent because I didn't keep track of the prices as I went along, so that's another lesson learned.
I think your DH knows what he spent his ...
