I too will be visiting my mother soon, and she too, continues to smoke, at 94 years old. LOL! Her doctor said to us kids, "if it hasn't killed her already, leave her alone". LOL. I feel strong in my conviction and I will take much reading material with me. But it's not too late for you and I, and all of our QS's and QB's who are traveling this road to fabulous FREEDOM!! Congrats!

I hope you all have a most wonderful Christmas season! I know I'm having a most pleasant, memorable Christmas! How not to use quit journals
Published (2009-12-22 15:18:46)
There are times that it becomes obvious that newer members find these journals and spend the bulk of their time reading the experiences and insights of other new quitters as opposed to spending their time reading and learning from all of our more seasoned members and from all of the articles we have made available at the site. It is ill advised for new members to be spending their time in the journals of others. If it becomes obvious that...

A biochemical model of nicotine dependency Brain cells communicate with each other by way of chemicals called neurotransmitters, that are released from one cell and attach to nearby receptors on another brain cell, causing what researchers term, activation, modulation or stimulation of the bran cell. Finally Free!!
Published (2009-12-22 14:44:21)
Meg, I have been quit for 2 weeks 3 days and I also just made it through a function that I thought was going to be hard. We had our family Christmas get- together and I thought it would be really hard because I was going to be drinking and socializing was always a real trigger for me. I was pretty much a chain smoker in those situations. I was pleasantly suprised to find that although I thought about cigarettes, I really didn't want one....

cajungirl,
It truly is amazing how wonderful the new life that we've chosen for ourselves is. It sounds from you post that you've crossed a threshold I
didn't for another few month in my quit. That point in our quits where we know that we will never take another puff. Isn't it wonderful? It only
gets better from this point on quit sister.

What a wonderful first diary post. Lots there that I recognize from my quit. I especially relate to discovering this site on day one of my quit and feeling

will get there. Great that your partner is on board, too.

Congratulations, Kim, and hang in there! You're doing the best possible thing you can do, but no one minimizes how challenging those first few weeks can
be. The key thing to remember is that you CAN do it. You ARE doing it! Cooking, laundry, whatever it takes (I re-organized my pantry on Day 7 or 8, as I
recall). It really does get better.

Good to have you here and I'm glad you're an ex-smoker also. I extend my cyber hand to welcome you. I just posted my first post yesterday, so I'm

Thanks for sharing your story of how you arrived here. Isn't it amazing how much detail you have in your long-term memory about starting the nicotine
addiction? It's not only your age, but where you were, who you ...

Hi Aaron
Welcome to the mix.
Keep reading here and learn about your adicition - that was the key for me that has separated this quit from all my others. I thought it was a bit of will
power and a bit of luck but it's not. We are dealing with a chemical addiction.
Understand it and you can overcome it.
All the best,
