Kelly , thanks for explaining and I understand the OGIT test now ...remember I am a senior member here ...did not have to go through that at the lab .I have a much better understanding why you posted the discussion . And good , that you have an Endo app't and a chance to ask for a C-peptide again and the tests others mentioned !! Please record as well as possible all your BG tests ,including night time ones , how many carbs , how much...

Tiera, like mentioned by the other members that basically means your dosage is off. We can't help you with that, you should see a doctor or go to an educational class to get you set on the right ratio.

Good for you Saya! I am getting the pump first thing, as soon as I can find an insulin I can take. There has to be ONE I'm not allergic to. As for someone saying you have to be very controlled etc...I would think this would HELP you get better control! Let's face it, insulin is liquid dynamite regardless of how you take it. It should always be handled with care! I can do it because I have to!

Rachel, Congrats on committing to the Dex CGMS. You are taking on a lot of new technology at once (with your new pump too!) but if you pay attention you can let all that new info sink in over time and you'll be OK. Sounds like waiting for your CGMS trainer is a good call on your part. Best not to start off on the wrong foot. Please keep us posted here as you learn your new tools! I learn much more from my fellow (and sister!) diabetics...

No wonder the government wants to put some additional rules in place for medical insurance, eh? :) My wife got a denial letter from BC today for her sensors, despite having gotten them before...sigh.

Can't argue with the stupidity of the insurance companies, but does it really have to cost $1.2 trillion dollars and 2000 pages, to get them to straighten up and fly right? Besides, what will happen is, everyone will be pushed out of their coverage, and into the public option, or whatever they want to call it. Me? I don't want to go to jail for not having insurance........Of course in prison, I guess insurance is free, right? :-) My...

Checking for ketones?
Published (2009-11-18 18:17:00)
I check for ketones to decide if I may have a problem with my insulin pump. So basically i check when I have a high that I can't explain. If I am 300 mg/dl because I ate a big piece of cake and gave insulin --> no ketones. If I am 300 mg/dl because my infusion site has a problem or I inserted into scar tissue ---> ketones. I also test when I am nauseated or feeling weak with a high. One day I woke up only moderately high...

I have never checked for ketones in my 36 years of D. As soon as I noticed bg above 200 I brought it down. No lab test ever turned up ketones. Since I got my CGM my bg consistently stays below 200. I even had some weeks where my bg stayed below 160 at all times.

No problems with CGM on my end. I would get with a MM rep and review all procedures. Don't blame the sensors. Something else is going on. CGM has worked for me and has lowered my A1c.

Kara I've been seeing a kidney doctor since the late 1990s. My creat. has has almost remained the same for years. Just recentlly it went to 1.7, I think it's because a med I was taking I can no longer take. The med I no longer take I was taking for years it was hydrochlorothyzide (sp?). Since being taken off of that med my other meds have been increased.

I was dxd. in the caveman/woman days, when I was 3 years old. Up until about age 7, in my mind, everyone had Diabetes and couldn't eat sweets, although I do remember eating licorice candy before I got my first shot of Insulin.
We definitely weren't coddled, so we had to accept it. We weren't allowed to go to parties or out for Hallowe'en, etc. until we were 13 yrs. old. I remember when I was ...

Michelle, I am tweaking my recipes to make them more healthy. I am just steaming the vegetables, using broth instead of milk in the potatoes, sugar substitute in the pies. I am also making the pumpkin pie in a spring form pan with just a dusting of gingersnaps crumbs on the bottom (cuts carb content and calories drastically). My cranberry sauce also uses sweetner instead of sugar.

Well, I am sorry that you are allergic to insulin - that seems very unique and unfortunate. My son waited 6 months for the pump. I know of other young people who are told they can get the pump once their numbers are better, but honestly, although the pump is alot of work initially, it does provide you with exact doses of insulin - like .2 units for example. You can never get that with shots. ALso...

I waited for the trainer to arrive. I put one AAA Energizer battery in the MiniLink charger, and put the transmitter in the charger so it would be fully charged when the trainer arrived. If you've never "pumped" before, they might start you off with saline solution in the pump so you can learn how to use it before filling it with the dangerous stuff (insulin!) Be sure to have plenty of AAA ...

Hi Bobby,
Sorry to hear about these struggles
I'm afraid there are no "normal" pump settings. We are all different. So I would not use the pump until you can figure out your settings. Do you have the papers from when you started on the pump or any other papers from your endo or diabetes educator. You should see if they wrote down the settings for you at some point. I just found my pump ...

UUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH Hate lows!!!! I cant walk well, talk, or much less think straight sometimes. I feel like I am going to have a heart attack! I get scared and tend to overtreat as well. Lately I have been really good....juice or regular pepsi and wait it out. I find it difficult to chew sometimes, so I just need pure sugar. I think I hate the shaking the most and the fast heart rate...
