A debate about honesty
Published (2009-11-11 02:48:00)
I think some people can't take the truth, eg: something bad happens = that person get's stressed = suicide by that person, Also what I think is, goverments should either say completely honest things or just shut up, I heard on BBC yesterday how an Australian prime minister said something about one policy but his views change after a while, meaning what he said earlier is not true now (and that that policy is changed), so if he...

Not saying it isn't, but I think people spend so much time looking at others in the second person that they confuse it with looking at others in the third person.

oh my <3 i was so close to a topic similar to this not so long ago ^^, one step up from Causality - being the whole Determinism thing... if we really are left in the driving seat of our lives, yet without a wheel :P then... well ^^ what we're really holding responsible, Determinism or not, is the result of a person's past... in "blaming" a person ^^ you're appointing responsibility, which is a pretty freaking...

It isn't a generalization. I have met a lot of religious people in the world, from the mildly religious to the overly religious. I sold an old honda of mine one time. I put it on Craig's List for $400 and this guy called me up and drove 100 miles just to check it out. He took it for a test drive, decided it was well worth the $400, and decided to buy it from me. As we were closing the deal, he asked me if I believed in god. I told...

Have you ever watched a film in which the protagonist continues to make the wrong decisions about things and suffers as a result? You know why he/she is making these choices, and you empathise with them, but you desperately wish they would make the right choice - the choice that is so obviously right to anyone watching the film. Okay, so you might be getting a bit over involved in this movie, but the point that I want to make is that we can...

Moderation is good in all things, but I'd still say it depends on the person, because different people with different lifestyles are under different pressures and blah blah blah, ham sandwich. What I'm sayin is yeah, I think you're pretty much right about too much being a bad thing, but some is still healthy. Oh yeah, neither masturbation or sex reduce your testosterone levels. Testosterone is a hormone that stays in your body,...

I just want further to make it clear that "No Blame" is *far* from being the whole *extent* of my personal philosophy of life, that it is certainly far from being my only working principle! No, it's just one aspect of my philosophy that, right now, I'm finding to be enormously important, and enormously liberating, including to a great extent internally. In fact, when I feel depressed, I sometimes *chant* "No...

Blame is good. Blame is the foundation of science, of technology. Blame is what drives humanity forward.
Of course, just blaming things is bullsh*t unless you do something about it. It's like when your roommate breaks a vase. Going "no blame" would mean that you don't blame your roommate for breaking the vase, and to solve further vase breaking incidents you devise a system to clean up the ...

I disagree, to often people look at other's behavior and think they are making mistakes because they assume they want the same things out of life as they do.
If they took time to realize who that person was, and what they wanted out of life their actions might not seem like mistakes at all.

You shouldn't embrace your view of the world especially if you don't feel anything good from it. It's very possible of being sad because people are stupid; I feel like that most of the time, you can still find a certain joy in a stupid world though. But keep in mind that there are some people in the world, including religious believers that can teach you a thing or two and to whom you can get ...

I'm listening to one of the most state-pumping tracks I know atm, ' Hornz ' by 3oh!3 . Though I don't like much of that album, their second album is much better.

Honesty is a great Virtue that can get a person in trouble really i know a guy who is too honest to the extent that he is misunderstood a lot he actually told a girl once if you stop being such a slut you'll find people treat you better since then she hasn't really talked to him she didn't understand that he had a good intention
that story above shows that honesty is useless when it's ...

I think your taking Freedom of Speech out of context, we have the freedom to say these things we CHOOSE not to say them. Like I might think someone is a complete dickhead but not say it so I don't hurt their feelings or to avoid conflict, does this mean I have any less freedom than before? no, does it mean that I am being controlled? no.
People do talk about religion you just have to do it ...

Ok, fair point, tend to agree... Not that I am about to go and punch and old lady or anyhting...
But if you were to look at a stiuation, and look at what your response would be, you and only you, regardless of how others may view it, how would you decide whether an action was good or bad? Such as... Stealing a loaf of bread to feed your starving family. Is that right, or wrong?
