Wails from the exiles
Published (2009-12-24 05:36:00)
Ah, your ruthless tragedies Africa, your many martyred sons, sold out and slain by the stooges of the counter revolution. And Comrade Samora Machel too, dead also. How I think of your angry poets Africa, your sons lost to the lands across the seas. Poets in agony for their crises torn continent. Bewailing the evils of our colonial conquest. As they bear the harsh winter`s brutality, in the sickening loneliness of their houses of exile. Syl...

Alberta, Congrats on the nomination! I have a friend who was nominated for an award (didn't win) and he got a lot of mileage out of it. He got the stickers that say "Georgia Writer of the Year Nominee," or whatever. It's always good to have something that separates our books out from the pack. Mine won its category in the "Best Books" contest last month. Hey, it might have been the only one in its category...

Hi Cynthia, It might mean you need a break. Sometimes when we spend over-time with our writing or we're rushing to complete it, or maybe trying to meet a scheduled date that we ourselves have set, we jump all around in the story. Take a week off, turn the computer off, get out and do things for yourself and then turn the computer on again. Look at it coldly. Before writing, look at the characters and figure how you want them to end with...

Supporting Independent Authors
Published (2009-12-23 21:16:00)
Hi Tim, Read both of your posts and left a comment on one. Really appreciated the article on Indie authors. I've been looking to reach more of them to support those works I find 'unique'. Perhaps I could have left this comment (too) on the Examiner, but hopefully my tidbit serves just as well here. Thanks for giving me another channel to connect with.

I find I'm having a new challenge with my latest novel. It's the third and final installment in my "trilogy of terror" Demon Hunter series. I feel I'm a little over halfway into the novel and it's gone very wrong. Usually my novels take on a life of their own while I'm writing and I enjoy it, but this time I feel like it's taken a left turn and left me in the middle of the desert with no food or water....

Hi Joel! Here's my "twanalysis" Basically I started tweeting in April, a couple at a time, I interact with ppl by finding key words and chats that are like minded (I love #writechat - 200 plus authors every Sunday afternoon. kinda bored by #blogchat) I review every single follower and block spam and p**n instantly (dont use that word or the bots will find you and inundate you). I also unfollow people if I dont like what...

Video Marketing
Published (2009-12-24 07:45:00)
Hi, My favourite social media channel is Youtube (still Adwords is the best channel of all though). I love it, its early days for me and I've been looking around at other Video hosting sites. I wondered if anyone uses http://www.metacafe.com/ ? If so what your experience has been. How does it compare with Youtube for referrals? Also so far I've avoided uploading the same video to multiple places preferring to embed from Youtube -...

I am not necessarily obsessed with my Amazon Sales rank but I do monitor it. I tried your tool and it is a good one. I check on a regular basis my sales rank and the number of sites that list my book through such tools ans bookfinder4u.com, fetchbook.info and bookfinder.com.

Hi Tannia, Have you tried contacting church groups or publishers who specialize in religious publications? Maybe they can help you find where your work fits best. I wish you all of the luck. Yes, there can be problems with consignment books. A good idea is to get them to sign a receipt for them that states the number of books, the titles and the date left. Give them a specific time to sell them - say 3 months, And then go back and reclaim the unsold books and get paid for the rest. Offer to do a book signing for the store, to get things started. Contact the local newspaper and get ...
