I agree with the others for the most part. It definitely will not make things better, and it could make things worse. It won't cause any harm, except perhaps to your performance and fuel mileage. YOu could be getting heated air mixed in as noted above, the MAF should compensate for the thinner heated air, and shorten the pulse width for the fuel injectors, thus giving you poorer performance.

yes it is true...... any of the 4x4 c-4 pans will have a deeper sump to hold more fluid. This fact also holds true for the AOD and c-6. I have always swapped the standard "car" pan for its 4x4 countrpart. use the 4x4 filter too. Sometimes they are designed to extend into the deeper sump. I have forgtten the exact details on this so ask the parts guy if there is a different filter for the 4x4 ...

Just for the heck of it, start it with the fuel guage still connected and see if the pressure drops before it stalls.
Another thing is how good is the battery, and alternator? 12.66 volts at rest, and 14.4 with it running?
Bad grouinds? Resistance increases with heat?
Just things to think about while you are looking outside the box.
Does it run with the MAF disconnected? New ...

Contact a body shop. They will be able to give some advise on restoring the air bag and other steering wheel related functions.

I have seen Rangers with this problem. Often there is a check engine light
that harbors an evap code as well. It may be the fuel filler hose at the
top of the tank.

1st thing I would do is measure the voltage at the battery yourself.
If it is low, then indeed you should suspect charging system.
If not, then your problem lies in the gauge. A fully charged battery should read as follows:
Battery Charge Table
12.6V or higher: 100% charge
12.4V - 12.6V: 75-100%
12.2V - 12.4V: 50-75%
12.0V - 12.2V: 25-50%
11.7V - 12.0V: 0-25%
11.7V or less: 0...

Have you referred to the glove box manual? I don't have access to mine just now ... but I believe I remember that the Escape is to towed only a very short distance with wheels down ... in an emergency situation. Could be wrong.

How old are the batteries?
Fully charged they should be at 12.66 volts.
You should be able to crank on them for a bit, and they'll drop a little, but recover to be near that, after a few trys they may drop a bit more.
If your's are dropping too quickly, they may still be able to take a full charge but not have the reserve cold cranking amps they had when new.

Just an update.
There appears to be vaccum at the line going into the egr at all times. Not sure if this is normal or not.
After disconnecting the line with no affect on the van, I ran a piece of line to the egr and applied very minimal suction on this and the van stalled right out immediately. The diaphram appears to move with no problems but only requires slight suction to ...

This is pretty exciting! This is the first "real looking" article I've seen on the issue. But my question is: what does this mean for the folks like me who've already had it happen? Do we automatically get thrown into a class action lawsuit to get back our money? How does that work?
Either way, I'm just glad it's looking good this may happen. Maybe it'll save a life or a mom from being ...

Take it to autozone or somewhere and get the codes scanned. Bring the codes back here and someone will tell you what the problem most likely is. You can not always believe what the guy behind the counter tells you is wrong. Some of them are pretty smart and some of them don't know their butt from apple butter.

You might want to spray the wires with a little spray of water and look for
any arching/sparking under the hood in relative darkness. Be careful... no
loose clothing, long hair, or jewelry that can get caught in any moving
parts!
