HVAC issues with my 99 3.0...
Published (2009-11-08 07:31:00)
Boyscout, You may have noticed that I refer many readers to this thread. Thanks for a job well done! I have replaced a core or two, and prior to doing so, I flushed it. I don't recall if I used a chemical flush either time, but the short story is.... I replaced the core. It seems that flushing works - somewhat, but that it never completely opens All of the core tubes, just enough to get a good flow. The core then functions at a deminished...

2009 Escape Transmission Failure...

While ATF temperature is critical while you are driving (or towing something behind you) I still do NOT believe that the "root cause" of the ATF being "puked" up and out the fill tube is from overheating. A vehicle towing a load can see transmission oil temperature reach over 250F without sustaining error. I believe that while your Escape is being flat towed, drain back from the torque converter and cooler...

Damaged Oil Drain Plug
Published (2009-11-06 14:32:00)
One of the parts guys was saying that they are an interference thread drain plug that the threads are not an exact match to help keep them from backing out......I dont know and he is a parts guy lol. I have several customers that only I change the oil and after 5-6 oil changes they seem to end up with a tight spot where you have to wrench it through.

You will feel the difference the cable type will have quite a bit of resistance when sliding them if the temp one doesn't have any then the cable end is probably off. Pull out the glove box and hopefully it is off on that end.

Good morning,
My 05' (66k on it) had the same problem you are describing. After spending $86 at the dealer, they were able to show me that the ignition coil was badly corroded around the #2 cylinder post. Not sure why the a/c was affecting it, but after replacing the coil and wires, all seems to work.

just had someone take a look at the truck and they believe the thermostat I replaced it with is no good. with heat detector aimed at hoses car is only getting up to around 140 degrees. Neither hose to firewall gets hot. said it's either the thermostat or water pump??? any input would be helpful. thank you

Have you referred to the glove box manual? I don't have access to mine just now ... but I believe I remember that the Escape is to towed only a very short distance with wheels down ... in an emergency situation. Could be wrong.

Can you post pictures?
If so that might allow us to be more helpful.
Its been 35 years since I saw a throw-out bearing, but as I recall the portion that rides in the fork goes to the back, and the bearing side rides on the fingers of the pressure plate.

Its my understanding that the lever will sometimes detach from the blend door. Can you hear it opening and closing, when you move it?
Did you check your coolent level?
The next most likely issue is the core is clogged. You can try back flushing it, but in m y limited experience that is only partially helpful.

I posted my problems under '09 Escape Transmission. I wonder if you also have an output bushing failing? It would cause a lot of heat, which in my case burned the oil, and also in doing so would be causing the output shaft to become hard to turn, resulting in the downshifting, etc that you are experiencing. Ford did not find any problems on the computer either nor did it act up for them when they...

The heater hoses always have water flowing through them no matter if the thermostat is open or closed. 99% sure it's the water pump.
I went though this with my 99 Taurus....after 3-4 heater core flushes, a couple engine flushes and a new water pump, I finally added a coolant filter with a spin on cartridge.
I check/change it every oil change and the cooling system is still 'making' crud, rust,...

Depends on how bad the misfire is.You could unplug the injector for that
cylinder for now.(not a real big fan of that tho)Why would the rpair be so
expensive ?What did they say was wrong/what codes etc. ? What motor do you
have also ?

No Joy.
Just got off the phone with my local salvage yard.
They looked it up and said that no truck axles will interchange with a 1999 Ford van. It has to came from either a 1999 or 2000 van. They didn't have any and none were in the system.
Rats.
Plan B. Hit the lottery and get a Quigley 4x4. That's the ticket.

From what I've seen of mud racing, you need to start with the biggest engine you can find. That is NOT a 351W !

How's the fluid condition and level? Might be time for a fluid and filter change.
When the OD light blinks there is a trans code stored. It could be overheating or the torque converter is slipping in OD. You need to get it scanned. Most trans shops will do it for free, they want your business.

The failure could be anything, not just the TC. A good scanner will pinpoint it.
IMHO It's a crap shoot to remove the trans to replace the TC and not have it opened up.
