I knew I would learn something from this group. I just joined and I am already learning on how to critique and how to take a critique as well. Thanks for posting the links.

Members of this group may be interested in the new bi-annual Street Photography magazine PUBLICATION which has just launched its first limited edition issue on the theme of 'Inspiration'. It consists of a booklet of essays and 22 beautiful unbound prints that come in a custom made carton. Produced out of London by street photographer and flickr member Nick Turpin . And if you do make candid pictures in the street, you can submit...

Um, maybe you could try to think of the portraits as sort of quasi-dynamic still-lifes? (joking (mostly)) If you take portraits to make people happy, and the people in question are indeed made happy; then the purpose has been served - does it matter if you don't think it's your best work? (If you're worried about "diluting your brand," you could always use a slightly different signature for the portraits -...

The general message is dated April 8......of 2008. Quite a few of the admins have not posted any photos to their photostreams for a number of months. The discussion does not seem particularly active.....but most importantly, the photos don't seem to be getting the comments which people appear to be coming for.

This is a great group. I have made many contacts that I consider friends. They have been very helpful with their comments and suggestions. Some of them have probably noticed that I have updated my stream photos multiple times after reading their comments, by either returning to the site to find better composition or making a mild adjustment to the image contrast. Comparing your critique to others is a wonderful way to sharpen your...

Helpful links, thanks. To reinforce your point, I've had complete strangers on Flickr message me to thank me for offering a more thoughtful critique (usually via one of the critique forums). I don't think I'm the greatest critique in the world by far, and in fact, initially, you have to push through the 'who am I to comment on this image' mentality. Remember, this is Flickr, not ...

:) Thank you Bill. You make some excellent points. It doesn't have to be my passion, my forte, but it can be a learning block for me. Thank you for the insight. :)

Emm. I agree with Irina.. The first pic shows more on the themes than the second pic. In other words, I think the first one tells a lot of stories about family and it kind of interesting and 'catchy' for the eyes to look. However the second pic is quite strong because, the first pic seems a bit messy. What I mean here is, we do not know which subjects to focus on or which subject that ...

I agree with bill.d that you should post some of your favs. But, as a group, there are many great shots. I know how difficult it is to narrow down the selection to a few. Especially when you have so may to pic from. I recently took 500 pics at a local marathon and it is very hard to manage the group. Editing, sorting and uploading are a real challenge. Good luck!...

Overall, I'd like to look at the photograph as a whole but, the tone is way too pink. It distracts me from the overall beauty that is the heart of your photograph. Really, her expression is fantastic. I even love the leather sofa as her backdrop split with the monotone wall. Also, the off-side crop is lovely - I'm a fan of not centering too many things in a photo, I think it's ...
