I think the gold airbrush color painted on may look good since it is super concentrated. I've tried
luster dust on my prada bag cake with little success.

I've found a diabetic/low GI/gluten free recipe which may be useful.
Trialled it this morning and it tastes good, very moist, almost pudding-y (lots of apple in there).
Here it is. I think there's an orange missing from the ingredients list!

If you're up for making a wedding cake, the frosting recipe shouldn't be the thing to intimidate you!
I'd make a
Swiss Meringue buttercream then add chocolate ganache until it is the intensity you desire.
