Own two other businesses, one as a computer consultant the other my own internet service. Trying to get the internet service self-sufficient enough that I can concentrate on photography as my main business.

I agree with streamlining and doing some minor post work to adjust things like white balance and things like that before sending proofs to your clients. If you go that route, then I'd shoot in raw then convert later. Batch converting to .jpeg is easy, and Raw will give you plenty of room for cleaning your images up in post.

Well, nobody is telling him to change price. A deal's a deal. But this is a learning experience. Anytime you do any work, keep track of how much time you actually spend on it. It will tell you how much you're actually making or losing. One of my last shoots, took a rounded up 16 hours in total. This includes phone and e-mail correspondence. Always eliminate the junk, keep what you are proud of and at least one of each important pose/event. 1. It is easier to send or upload less files 2. It makes you look good 3. Lets your client see more of the better photos That said I do hold the junk until they look over what I send them, just in case there was something I threw out I should not have.

So why not have an approval-only pool? My impression is that this group is more about discussions (with a bit less of the noob chatter than most groups) than sharing lots of photos. Sometimes at work I hesitate to even click on the group name in case I get a screenful.

Possibly the tons of extra effort to be approval-only wouldn't be worth much. One reason to not change the approval process right now is that flickr central is getting better & faster at removing this russian porn guy. And users per forum report him to a mod immediatly so mods "poof" him lickity-split. Another reason is that the russian porn guy changes sites he sends to. In the summer he was hitting Nikon named...

To add on to petepixxx's comment, this time around, the porn guy had his account deleted within 15 minutes of being reported.

Thanks Kai for the reply. That's kind of what I figured but it's always nice to get another opinion.

+1 on the Scott Kelby book. I bought three LR books and attempted to understand the same things in all three. Only the Scott Kelby book showed me everything, and more.

You really have to decide what you are selling, I think. If you are selling inexpensive prints like many do on these sites, you don't want to touch them if you can avoid it. I have seen sites, not etsy I don't think, where the fulfillment and order tracking is done by the site host. I see folks selling images where they are only making a few bucks per sale at best. Not hardly worth ...

Sweet. Thanks Mona. I'm taking my stool, which was my original plan, but then saw a video on youtube where they photographer was doing headshots standing at a corporate office. Sitting seems better to me.

RE post-processing: Have you ever read Ansel Adams's books? Looked at most of "Master's" photography? I believe all of it was manipulated in some way (cropped in the darkroom, burned, dodged, cross-processed, pushed, photoshopped, etc.) Maybe the F64 group came ...

For this shoot, it would not be a good idea to go back after telling your client you'd do it for $150, so I think you should not raise the price suddenly unless you really don't want the clients.
As far as pricing goes, it usually depends on what other photographers in your area are charging and what services you offer, your level of experience, and a lot more. Check the ...
