I had the Canon S3IS for a year and a half. Moved to Nikon D40 + 18-55mm + 55-200mm VR. Added a 60mm micro lens for macros. Been 2 years now. Only regret - Should have taken the 70-300mm VR instead. The extra100mm helps.

@VJ is the expert and his advice is considered and wise. I appreciate his point of view and agree fully with him. It is great advice. Please consider it carefully. I would advise following it. A 70-300mm cannot handle a TC! No autofocus! If you are on a budget, follow the combination I have given above, but if you can afford it, go for the 70-200mm 2.8.

INR 3500 ? That is way too cheap for a Manfrotto! Are you sure about the price ? If yes, then it seems to be a really fantastic deal!

@NitSaw I understand but OT mentioned mainly about shooting birds which is also similar situation to sports photography and for which it is better to have one dedicated glass rather than having too many glasses (18-55, 55-200 etc) which I don't really see as potential fast lenses for the topic. Ya price is heavy but for the feature it offers. You know what am talking about. And that was one example for the features you may want to...

I agree with @pranavpeshwe and leave the Canon/Nikon to you since they both have their pros and cons. However, having a Nikon myself, a good starting combination is the 18-55mm and 55-200mm both with VR. It is very difficult and frustrating to try and get birds with a non VR lens, hand held since the camera shake gives you terrible results. Learn first and then move up with your lenses....

In this photo, the sky came out clean and blue, but the brighter background made the red color very tough to stand out, so using the selective coloring, i just increased the color tone to make it look prominent on the bright background. Obviously made it a little sharper as well.
