@ Blue Light Art- you are welcome to use my 4 pocketwizards, or I'm sure others will let you borrow some other trigger if you don't like PW's.

Anyone that feels like helping Rochelle and I prepare for this shoot, we are heading back over to the condo tonight and cleaning up everything for the event. Give me a ring at 503-317-2464 if you are feeling bored and want to come help out.

Right on track. This is handy for situations where you you are limited in your sync speed, but still want to shoot with a wider aperture than ambient will allow for and, like you said, assuming you have enough extra power in your strobes to make up for it. I'm not sure if Pentax does it, but another option would be to use focal plane (FP) high speed sync (HSS). It's a kind of hack for situations where you need a higher shutter speed...

For being a fastball, you still managed to hit a standing double... if not a triple. I guess I'm also dealing with "upgrade shock". Too many bells and whistles. Mongo no understand. Thank you for your help.

I go into ProPhoto about twice a year, and have been doing so for various reasons for a long time. It's rarely a good experience. Their rental department has treated me like a knowknothing wanker, even when I've been renting significant high-cost set-ups. I can never get help at the counter and I've come to just dread the place, but their selection is such and Portland is small enough that I feel I must visit once in a while...

Rich, it is definitely a sign! Don't worry, I'll be eating that cake and sobbing with you.... sobbing because I will feel guilty for all the cake and candy I will be consuming that day.

Just dip those carrot sticks in chocolate first! And I'm with Sarah, I'll help light Rich while he's crying and eating cake so we can get some great shots!

No this has been there for a while now. I noticed the clamps, selection of light modifiers for small strobes, and the strobist gel packs when I went in for look about two months ago. Overall it is a nice change but I still have about 50/50 luck with getting someone that is friendly or knowledgable when I go in.

I entered the last 2 years as well and had a few photo's make the finalists but I hadn't attended the dinner social so I don't have any knowledge on that part. I will probably still submit images again this year as it is for a good cause but having a catagory for local artists would be a great add ~ something to think about!

yea thanks, that's what I thought. I shoot Pentax, max synch speed is like 180 ( I think). So I'd have to be at the max synch and the f-stop i'd like to use. put the filters on, drop it say 2 stops, then on the strobe ( either flashgun or studio) I'd need increase the strobe 2 stops, so if I don't have the tube power, I'd just be underexposing.

Figured it was the sync speed. Next question...
How do I make it go away? Or can it?
There has to be a way. Otherwise, how do you shoot fill flash in the noon day sun?
This thing must be related to the Hal9000. "I can't let you do that, Dave" :-)

Dave, if you have Windows XP (or a later version) you already have an easy application, it's called " Windows Movie Maker". The one caveat being as I recall, it doesn't prepare and burn the DVD to be Video-DVD compliant for DVD players.
There is a guide on burning a MS Movie Maker movie to DVD here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemake r/create/savetodvd.mspx (the ...

If you can make it to a MAX stop...you can take the MAX right to the Beaverton Round and you'll be right at his place. But as for parking there's a parking lot super close by.
