I have an old 1 1/2 inch deep Toshiba hood that firs the 62mm openings. Wouldn't shoot the Tokina or the Komine without it. Might be why my 70-210 does such a nice job... It's a beat up old thing with felt in the bore, but it really does the job cutting reflection and flare ! Here it is on the Tokina...

i really think the streaking on my comet shot was due to mirror slap or loose tripod.the fainter comet trail isnt smeared much

The line actually goes a little past the center of the infinity mark. I only noticed that it wouldn't focus there when I was testing it out. It seems to focus to about 150 yards or so? Didn't get scientific with it. I didn't pay too much for it. Hmm will have to think about tearing it down, that always scares me, but the only alternative is selling it...

I have the early edition of this lens (chrome nose-small rear element), which has been AI'd. And I already belong to a group or two that is devoted to the Nikon 105 lens. Nothing personal, but I'm in the process of leaving some groups (too many), I really don't need to add another one. Especially a third one devoted to one lens. But thanks. Hope it does well. QLP

I came across a Yashica TL Electro X in the junk box some people say doesn't exist... M42 mount I guess....(??) It has a 50mm 1.7 on it, and its buddy, a Soligor 28mm 2.8 is in there too (also $5) as well as a Maxxum 700si, and three 35-80mm maxxum lenses. Although one is silver, so they should pay YOU $5 to take it away. They just cleaned out all the repair cameras that no one ever claimed.

This lens is actually very good for macro work. I used one with extension tubes and a m42 adapter on my D40 to "scan" my film stuff before I got the 8800f. It has a very flat image field close up and real good sharpness in the corners. I compared it to all my other m42 50mm and this little thing was by far better @ 3.5 than for instance the pentacon 50/1.8 @ 5.6. Just get some tubes and try that yourself. Nice work btw. do...

It's raw and it's dirty, but I thought I'd give it a try. After all, the lens was only 5 euros :)
Now I only need to find a darned lens cap for the thing...

Raphy, I have all three of the "good ones". They are all great lenses, each with many strengths and a very few weaknesses. I'm not going to recommend any of them even though I have a favorite. Rather I would encourage you try any of them, as they are abundant and cheap.
What I do want to caution you about are the later 70-210 Series 1 f/2.8-4.0 units that were made by Cosina and ...

I like how you picked the name...
You boys should add information from here and place it there...or make it a wiki of some kind that we can contribute to in some way.
