Steve Many folks might be using Photoshop and the "save for web" function. They may be unaware that that function strips EXIF data from the file in the interest of achieving the smallest file size at decent resolution. Perhaps nobody has told then the "Save As" function allows them to save a reasonably small file but still have the exif included. Mike

Agreed, there is nothing worse than looking at a picture, thinking "That's nice, I wonder how they did it", and having no EXIF to read! Sometimes I'm annoyed enough to ask for it in the comments. I like to think Flickr is a site for people to exchange tips and learn, not just to show off your latest shot whilst offering no educational value.

quick info: in cs4 [probably cs3 too] you have to switch from 16bit to 8 bit so that the ".jpg" option appears among the 'save as' options

I'm curious as to what focal lengths you were using. Generally speaking close-up lenses are meant for longer focal lengths and narrower AoV due to issues with field curvature and aberration associated with magnifying wider angles. starfish235 recently turned me onto The Frequency Response of a Defocused Optical System by H. H. Hopkins that goes through the mechanics of this. I'm still going through most of the equations myself but...

"...The way you say 'presets in version 2' makes me think you just used the ones that came with the product. Which is not quite how it was intended. You are aware there are D2x presets for lightroom too?...." Been there - done that and was very unimpressed with the results. The Lightroom D2x presets mimic the in-camera settings, but still need further adjustment to obtain the same look that I get in Capture NX2....

@Almari I just spent six months shooting more or less exclusivley with a 4x5 view camera. I'm also not parroting as I have been using Lightroom for more than two years before school (and making enough money to sustain myself) started. I just happen to agree with those who are teaching me and many, many other proffesional photographers. Are you capable of having a mature disscussion or must you try and undermine other people? What could go so wrong about putting the 24-70 on a DX camera though? I know there are many people that do that....... I know there's the crop factor in a DX camera, but if we could deal with that, why not?

I'm guessing something is pressing against the shutter release on the battery grip. It's a sensitive little button.

I think you mean that you got an EN-EL4A, right? Everyone should get the grip, especially to balance big glass. I use NiMh AA's instead of the D3 battery. Works great and is far cheaper. Be aware the the grip shutter release is very touchy. You'll get used to it though. Also, you can turn the grip release off when you are not using it so that you don't accidentally bump it....

Unless you really NEED VR, then look at the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D - Every bit as sharp if not more so than the 70-200mm VR but potentially more than $1000 less. LAst I checked I could get one of these new for ~ $1000 You can replace the 18-70 variabel aperture with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 for around $400 - $550 Those would be my suggestions.

I test drove both programs and to be honest neither one really jumped out at me and screamed "LOOK HOW AWESOME I AM!" In the end I decided I didn't wanna spend $200-$300 on software that I'm going to spend a minimal amount of time in so I went with Photoshop Elements 8 and use Adobe Camera Raw through Bridge to edit and tag all my files.
