If you're getting paid a boatload of money for the shoot it may be worth it. If it's just another concert shoot for a publication then, well, it depends how important the experience/contacts are. Generally these are considered an attack on photographers because, historically, photographers walk away with rights to the art they create. Many media/PR companies are trying to change that in order to control their client's image and...

You may be right, both of you, and hopefully it is so. But still I feel this is an attack on the photographer's right to his/her own photos. I agree about the right of use being something else. The copyright law in Norway is up for discussion these days, and there is a revision being done to modernize it. If the supreme court vote for Hakonsen, I am afraid those who want to weaken the creator's rights will get another argument for...

Don't sign this stuff, unless they pay you a lot upfront as the other said. Can I ask you who is the band/artist, just to avoid bothering ask for a pass at all? thanks Vale

Can see where you're coming from. Sometimes blurred photos can come out looking pretty nifty. Though, "engineering" them as you've said is pretty chancy, but I get what you mean with that.
I've got a few from the Holy Fuck concert that went down just this summer past, and they're definitely fun shots when they turn out right....

I wouldn't photograph Coldplay even if Chris Martin knocked on my door in person

jess.... do you think your existing portfolio is strong enough to showcase to pr co's records label and the like???
part of being a photographer is knowing how your work is perceived.. then having the confidence to take it further..
Your asking a question that's been asked a million times.. so I'm asking you a question back.. 'what is the real reason you want to shoot ...

What Ben said.
I was fixated on local music for about a year. I went to hundreds of shows, paid my $5 cover, bought merch from the bands I liked and started getting to know folks. I offered MySpace/Facebook usage for free for 90% of the bands (all of them unsigned, starving artists) and built a massive portfolio of various types of shots. Since I was shooting for the 'love' and not...

Given that point 1 basically gives all rights away to the 'Company' and point 3 states that for all of those rights you aren't being paid a cent I would say no, don't sign it unless there some rather odd circumstances.
The gist of it is that you are going to go, take photo's for three songs and then give them away for free, not only that but you are under contract to provide copies...

well you can still get your legal fees without registering. just not damages.
basically, if its not registered, you can only sue for what the photo is worth, if its registered, you can sue for a ton more. That is the only difference.
but then again, the US legal system sucks, and trying to collect your settlement will be another court case in it self....

e.g if it's a cc image and they used it editorially you are basically shit out of luck and welcome to the horrorshow that cc creates. if you are waiting to be paid for a previous job, the first solution is to check on the status of your invoice w/ a real, live human. This usually solves the problem. Welcome to freelance -- theoretically you are a very wealthy person, but the money is ...

I've got a 18-200 VR, but that may be a bit incapable for concerts with lower light with it being 3.5-5.6 at widest. Damn flexible though, and if you're good with post then you should still get good shots.
The 35 f/1.8's another good suggestion, I'd second that (planning to pick one up myself at some point, even).

Your last point is my point too. I don't like thinking about the consequenses of a win for the plaintiff.
