@touristguy87 : you're my flippin' hero, plus you answered the question as opposed to going off on some other topic. I couldn't agree more, the G9 is a great camera, I have had mine since they were released and while there are a few issues, it's overall a very useful and good quality carry-around camera, especially if you travel. I am considering moving to the G11, but the only reason is that a lot of what I like to take...

If the images turn out good, the camera is good (not considering artistic quality, though, that's entirely up to the user) >any tips or warnings (i promise to read the manual) on using the G9, so i can get to enjoying the new cam pronto? Get it out and get firing off some shots. There is plenty of time to read the manual (i havent yet) and yes the camera does seem a bit small for a shoulder strap. I quite often have no strap unless i'm over water or worried about dropping it. Have fun ;)

a big problem with the G9 is dust getting on the senor (which, unlike with an SLR, you cannot remove since you cannot remove the lens). set it to manual and turn on manual focus. set the aperture to the largest f-number. point the camera at the sky in daylight and shoot a slightly overexposed frame. any dust spots on the sensor will be revealed as dark blurry blobs.

Some people still moan that the G9 sucks at dark, and high ISO. I could not disagree more, once you learn how to use it the images it can get in darkness work for me :) I use it for Gigs, and take countless amounts of images and it is amazing at times producing some quality results, yet I still see so many people saying it is dire at gigs and low levels light. having read reviews on both, i am swaying to buying the G9 instead of the G11.
for the extra money the G11 costs, i see no real benefit to getting it. one or two things might be better than the G9 , but i dont know.
i can find a G9 for £225 brand new, and the G11 is more than twice that.
having got or used neither of these yet, can any of you tell me if the changes ...

One of my memory cards went bad on a recent trip. I lost all but the last dozen photos I took one day (there were probably 80-100 or more). The camera was recording them, because I showed some to my husband during the day. When I went to download, there were the photos from the day before and the last dozen from that day.
After getting home I downloaded a couple of programs to try ...

My G9 is in need of a part - namely the circuit board on which the thumbwheel resides.
It weighs about the same as a spoon of sugar and would pretty much fit inside a matchbook. There are no integrated circuits on it, but my Canon repair specialist wants GBP£40 for it.
I wonder if anyone either has a G9 they're breaking, or has details of a supplier of spare parts who would be...

Hey, everyone. I was wondering, have you ever used your G9 to record sound? How handy is this feature?
I read somewhere that you can record up to two hours of voice memo. That sounds pretty cool! But once you're done recording what do you do with the sound file? Can you upload it to your computer as a WAV file (or another standard format)?
I've been meaning to buy a voice ...
