simple way to learn, shoot full auto for a week, see what the camera think's is "ideal settings" for iso, aperature, shutter, etc. shoot Program for a week, tweak the suggested settings shoot Av for several weeks (I shoot this mode most of the time) sooner or later, you'll be able to shoot full manual w/o having to think. goal: shoot better images than full auto.

I am not happy with XT's focus in low light with 50mm f/1.8 or 85mm f/1.8 too. I got a lot of out of focus pictures even with sufficient fast shutter speed.

I just got the canon XTi two days ago. I feel like I can not read the manual fast enough!! Can anyone give me any good tips? I am so excited to learn everything I can about this camera!

Then after you've mastered all the above get into shooting raw , You will see a lot more details brought out and you can manage more of your shot in developing on your computer. Your camera's software should have a raw developer. Or you can download this awesome developer . its free and very easy to use. for the record I'd like to have a 7D myself, mainly for the improved AF system. I would put the $1000 into new glass but that's just me . . . a 200f/2.8L would be nice . . . good luck with your choice

It's trying to tell you that you need to buy a good external flash. Sorry, not trying to be a jackass. I just don't like the pop-up flash, and it would not bother me if it failed to function. Actually, I'm not even sure it does on my cameras. Having said that, it can be useful for daylight fill flash, but I still use a hot shoe flash for that purpose....
