sorry yes shutter speed don't matter I mean iso I have a D90 so it not bad with noise but I would still like to minimize it. I do admit to liking to throw money at problems but it is not the only reason I was thinking studio flashes. There are just some things u can't do with small strobes. The umbrellas just help spread the light more? I have not tried this. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong I guess I will have to try some...

AMFoto68: no, it doesn't have to be 20AH...someone above said he used a 33AH. It probably depends more on weight (do you want to carry it?) and size (will it fit in the bag?)

I think we have a whopping one photography business in a 30-45 mile radius. (That's sort of my point.) There's so many students at the local high school that want to have personalized pictures. The senior pictures done by the school aren't so great. Many have inquired about them. I have gotten many inquiries about doing weddings. I'm from a small town, but live in a bigger city. I travel back and forth very frequently, and...

"The attic is never cooler then the outside temp" Ok, but I live in Canada, and right now the outside temp is -40. LOL Rapid temp changes will cause problems, operation in extreme hot/cold will cause problems. Cold/hot long term storage will probably not be an issue. Just remember if you pull it out of a cold attic, wait an hour or so for it to warm up to room temp before turning it on. But overall... if you are considering...

Brian, I'm not using it with the reflector but it appears that otisgalex is. The sock won't completely fit over the housing of the B800.

My recent photography teacher had a saying: he didn't give marks and would only give a critique if asked to. He said that "I don't have to reject you. The market will reject you all on its own."

Hey! I'm new to this group and also new to lighting. I need a little help. I'm thinking about starting a photography business. I'm buying everything new. I plan on buying the following things. I need you guys to tell me if this will be sufficient and versatile enough. I like to shoot both natural and studio lights. I shoot portraits, headshots, edgy bands, and etc. Here what I plan to ...

I have the same problem, Trying to get the sock over the 7" reflector is a pain. I bought a spare refector, just came last week. When my neighbor gets back from vacation, I plan on cutting a few inches off of it so that the sock will just slide over. He has a bandsaw with a tilting table. I started to take a pair of tin snips to it, but the bandsaw will make a cleaner cut.....

It all depends on the ratio between the background light and your key light on your subject. You could light a background to pure white with one speedlight at 1/128 power.

Thanks for the reply! You've given me more to think about now(not a bad thing)
At this point I might be able to afford a B800 and then an SB-800 in a month or so, which from what I've been reading would be fairly sufficient for the time being.
That being said, if let's say, 3 speedlights w/accessories could provide similar power and end-results, that might be a good route to go ...

Depends on your budget. I use a Gi trigger PT-04 that triggers a vivitar flash and the AB800 is triggered by the in built optical slave from the light coming from the flash. Costs $20 and has worked perfectly for me every single time. If you have money to spare go for the Cybersync
