@ Rob: I've not found this to be the case. I rename image files fairly frequently, including lots that I have virtual copies of, and have not had any problems with LR forgetting or messing up the names. Running LR on an older system with limited memory and drive space ... yes, I've found that to cause niggly problems occasionally. The solution is simple... although it does cost money!

As Purple Umbrella said mixed lighting is a hard thing to deal with. However you can try to adjust WB so that say pie looks ok and then use local adjustment brush with toning setting to balance the rest! However it is going to be pretty hard and maybe you`ll need PS to make everything look perfect. And try to manage better lightning next time of course!

It's the best plug in there is for Lightroom. The Beta 3 includes watermarking, but still can't do all the things that Mogrify can. I would recommend it to any one, just make sure you follow the instillation instructs closely on windows based machines, on OSx it is a very simple. Mogrify can also run on servers and is pre installed by many these days...allowing borders and water marks to be created on the fly on web...

Anton, I have not come across the batch renaming problem before, and I use it with every image! Could I suggest you consider converting the raw files to DNG, this would obviate the problem with xmp files. I know it's an extra step but could be done on import, and might save time in the long run.

What is the actual lighting like? I'm guessing pretty mixed in terms of temperatures/technologies. That sort of looks like what you get in a gym with mixed sodium, mercury, halogen and incandescents.

PROBLEM SOLVED! 1. It had nothing to do with LR. 2. I had everything to do with 64 bit vs 32 bit - IN THE BROWSER SETTINGS. 3. os -x is 64 bit. Once (Mac store!) heard of all we tried, and tried it on another os x Mac, (same problems), the guy took a look at the browser (safari) and marked it 32 bit. Voila. 4. Thank you, all of you, for your assistance. I've learned more about the machinations of my computer!

@Godfrey - Thanks a lot! That's the kind of advice I was looking for. I haven't experimented much with moving LR catalogs around and, I'm somewhat uncomfortable, with doing so. But this is likely the answer. As far as Drobo serving as a backup, I would say it is somewhere in the middle as far as providing this kind of protection. As you say, it is a redundant storage system which serves as a limited protection backup. As suck,...

I'll have to play around with it. Until recently, I have used Photoshop for most of my heavy work and LR to organize and do minor corrections. The brun tool always frustrated me becuase it didn't act like a Photoshop brush. I guess I'll have to read up on it. I would like to use LR for more editing.

dng converter should work with the E600, its generally what adobe tells you to do whenever a new camera comes out and they don't have RAW support in LR yet.

@Misha - That would defeat the purpose of the Drobo which would end up being just another (albeit humongous) external drive. While we're on the subject of externals, I own two 750GB drives as well as a 125GB portable. I'm hoping to use the big HDDs for offsite storage and/or cannibalize them for Drobo.

dooderose wrote but would LR performance be faster if I had them on my internal? Yes it would. The catalog doesn't take a huge amount of room although the previews can start to take up space. I would suggest you move as many files as possible onto your external drive and use your internal drive to run the OS, applications and your LR catalog. Better yet get another internal ...

If you are use CS4 to do this, anything is possible. What works depends on how proficient you are with creating Actions in Photoshop. Since I never managed to get LR2/Mogify to work, I use Photoshop actions to create my borders/watermark/etc. There are lots of tricks to doing it properly, depending upon how complex or simple you want your output to be... ! I don't think it is a problem with LR and SL as I'm using the same software, which is working fine. Have you upgraded to the current release of LR, currently v2.5? If not try upgrading to the 2.5 version, it's a free upgrade. (By the way v2.6 is nearing completion of testing and is available as a release candidate from Adobe Labs). The fact that iPhoto and Picasa are having ...

I don't understand the logic behind removing them from your HDD. Don't you want to be able to go back and browse through them later? It seems like an odd kind of "drive-by" approach to me. In my case, it goes like this: - Import RAW from the memory card and convert to DNG - Delete rubbish shots - Apply keywords to the ones that remain - Mark as "Pick" the ones ...

Rather than buying a book, I would suggest a better learning approach for this interactive application is a set of tutorial videos. Books give you detail information, tips and tricks, and reference information that are very useful. But I find from discussions with my students that they do not get across the "how and why" as quickly or as easily as a class or video tutorial does ...

LR's export panel does not preview the exported file size. I'd pick the dimensions required for your competition, export at 80%, and see how big it turns out to be by looking at the file outside of Lightroom. Adjust the quality up or down until you get it where you want it. Similarly, LR doesn't give you the 'size on disk' for image files. Right-click on the image to see the ...

Yes, sRGB I have consistent image colour between LR, PS and MS Picture Viewer but red colour in QuickTime Picture Viewer and, of most concern, Portrait Professional. Maybe I need to upgrade to the Studio edition of portrait pro as I just checked and this has colour management.
