"or a spending cap needs to be put in place like they have in football." It only works in football because there is revenue sharing in place. Further, even with the cap, teams still move to decent markets that can support them (see Cleveland/Baltimore, Houston/Tennesee, Baltimore/Indianapolis, Oakland/Los Angelos/Oakland/Los Angelos/Oakland/Wherever, Los Angelos/St. Louis, Chicago/St Louis/Arizona, etc).

Revenue sharing would be nice, but I agree with you that it has to be
combined with a salary floor for players. I would not mind seeing both a
floor and a cap for salaries. Baseball is heading to a non-competitive
sport where it is always the same teams in the mix with the occassional
Twins run and a couple others on one or two season runs.
