Frame plates done a year ago...I am going to clean them up with a wire brush and put fresh paint on them. I also will drill the frame rail and mount the air line for the airbags, I don't like it like this. I got some new "scrubber" blades from SierraExpeditions for the south of the border trip. Still need to "rainX" the windshield. A little bling... The taco plowing through a lot of snow to get me home...

jkeever was nice enough to come out and demo the LED lights for me. We parked his 2005 TJ to the left of my 2008 JK on a dark road. I placed a pair of identical stuffed dogs on the road, one directly in front of each Jeep, just out of range of my headlights. The LED lights have the "wow" and "cool" factor; the color temperature is quite high but their operating temperature is very low. The beam spread was...

Published (2009-11-07 20:24:00)
I have heard from a couple of my buddies from Ft. Hood. Apparently the guys I know are all ok. They are all pretty shaken up though! I think the Army failed its soldiers. I think the suspect's family and church failed him. This should have never happened. Whether or not this guy was just a nut who went postal or not, it looks like a black eye for the Muslim community right now. The underlying problems are still there. They obviously have...

Tips on beadlock wheels please....

Depends on what you are buying and from whom but most of the time they say for off-road use in order to skirt any potential legal liability issues. Check your local laws as well. Some jurisdictions don't allow bead locks on public roads at all.

SEMA 2009: Pictures, updates and...
Published (2009-11-07 18:33:00)
There were plenty of over-the-top customs at SEMA, like this tube buggy running Rockwell axles and 44 inch tires and this lineup of trucks. Lower a ladder so I can climb aboard! But they were not at center stage. The overland travel motif was more prominent in the truck and suv hall. The emphasis this year was on sensible, salable products, not flights of fancy.

Never cool in my rig...no matter the circumstances. It turns a "lets stop and think about this situation" into a "hey, hold my beer and watch this" situation. I like to think most ExPo folks are more along the lines of the first set of quotations, leaving the second set of quotations for people with mullets and missing teeth. Drinking has its place after the rigs are put away for the day and the ...

Some shots from over the past weekend from the Keweenaw Peninsula. We went up to spectate at the Lake Superior Performance Rally. Great weekend.
First shot is from the Eagle Harbor, the second from the top of Brockway Mtn with Lake Superior visible in the background.

For me it is simple. If the dog is still eating he has the will to live. He might be slow and in mild discomfort but still has the desire to go another day. Just make sure you manage any pain appropriately. If your vet is not into monitoring the dogs pain, get another vet!

Bryce will be covered in snow in March, though the road might be open by then. Zion is quite a bit lower. Personally, I think Zion is fresher and more unique to shoot than Bryce. It is also more difficult and arduous to shoot Zion's back country. For that reason, it's less frequently shot.

Would you get the vaccine and why (yes or no)?
The company I work for is giving it free to all our employees. I still on the fence whether or not to proceed with getting it myself. Opinions welcome but I would prefer some feedback based upon actual empirical data.
Thanks!

most recovery straps are designed to stretch a little bit (10-20%), and you can definitely yank on them. don't get big running starts, but as long as you're anchored well on both vehicles, you can give it a couple of tugs.
a tow strap has open hooks on the end and should never be used for vehicle recovery.

As an owner of an IRS 3rd Gen Montero, I have to say, it is quite cpable off-road for my applications. Suspensions are available for it. I am not a rock-crawler so I was not really concerned with the solid axles. I see no problem with the IFS/IRS set up on the Montero. It looks like that is the trend of the future though.
