Porting old PSTN number
Published (2009-11-27 16:40:00)
Ok, in case Tim hasn't advised you in full. - The number can't be used as a VoIP number as our supplier simply cannot terminate the number in your area. - They ported the number anyway. - The number was discovered as incompatible due to the incoming call issue you raised. - The number is now being ported back from that supplier to the Optus network, and reassigned to your land line. The Optus porting process takes about the same time...

Transferring from ADSL1 to ADSL2
Published (2009-11-28 21:43:00)
It's a long while since I changed from ADSL1 to ADSL2 but I was phoning someone at the changeover moment. The phone dropped and was working about 10-15 mins later. The web returned a short while after. I then made a VoIP call on my existing DID. It was completely painless. I didn't do anything.

Also, if you have not done so already, you need to email billing@exetel.com.au to discuss refunds due to line faults.

I think you'll find if you delete the old one before adding the new one it should apply correctly, if by chance it doesn't though and you get billed for it just open a support ticket so that it can be manually applied against your account

Hi pomonastik, I consider the ABC important and reply thus David R wrote: Depends when you are viewing it. if you're happy with am you can view it (freely, uncounted) all morning/ if it's pm you've a Prepaid/fixed quota above which incurs a low $3.00-$0.50 /GB for about 1 hrs viewing ie. $3.00-$0.00 metered 'depending' on when you use it, and you can always schedule it for morning i.e. Free. If the DSL light is going out, this most likely indicates the connection itself is dropping out during these times. May be worth trying the modem in isolation if it isn't as well during these periods - ie. no phones/filters/etc. plugged into the phone line, just the modem.

Port Scan
Published (2009-11-27 00:44:00)
hehe, it was easier to find an app and do a port scan of my own on the source Ip than to make sense of the wikipedia article. I'm still none the wiser but I figure if it was intentional on the part of the person who owns that ip then they'd know I know lol. The port scan i did gave me sources name as "dangerous.homeip.net" Googling that wasn't too helpful. Thankyou for your reply.

You can do the same with a wifi-enabled smartphone and Joikuspot, but the price of that looks good, in comparison. I wonder how much it will cost when it arrives here... (Also a quick Google seems to suggest it's HSPA 2100MHz only, which would be a bit of a disadvantage).

Do you know what the IP address is that Exetel has given you? (Sorry I'm not familiar with that model.) I suspect it might be a username / password problem and you are being attached to the Exetel-only network instead of the full Internet.

Hi on the https://www.exetel.com.au/sms/sms_order1.php page the link to "whats this" next the verification number under the payment section does not work.
https://www.exetel.com.au/sms/ cvv.html returns a 404.
I know what cvv is, was just browsing the pages.
Cheers

Just a small cosmetic change please, when you change the "Order VoIP Services" page in the Members Facilities, to add Campbelltown DIDs, please move the Bendigo numbers to be with the other Victorian numbers ie. Melbourne and Geelong. That way the numbers available for each State or Territory will be grouped together.

You can't get any form of ADSL without a phone line. Normally in new construction the builder, through his electrical contractor, will have taken the internal phone cables to a point on the external wall. The next bit is usually up to you, and your options depend on where you are. In some few places the energy company can give you a bundled package deal, otherwise it's Telstra and possibly Optus....

Not so much problematic, Exetel has temporarily suspended plans until its Wholesaler, Telstra wholesale , drops the price on those ports to a realistic level for the 8192/384k level access. We're all winners if this happens.

If you have not changed the option since shaping was disbanded then you have retained the service and should receive a block page upon reaching your quota, provided Exetel usage meter updates in time to catch your usage.

I should state that I understand that really excessive users should be disconnected, and I'm not really arguing with that - if you're downloading 170gb, 180gb, 200gb a month you're unprofitable to Exetel, and should be gone. I would think that the people that do download these types of numbers are questionable anyway, I don't think there are that many "Linux iso's" ...

Have had the same problem for the last week. Times two. Both a friend and myself. As we are running the same router and ATA, I thought there may be something unique to the combination. As there was no one else with this problem. Until now................ tim

Spam usually comes from Windows zombies. They won't be using your mail client, just your web connection. Have you scanned any Windows boxes you have?

Good afternoon Anfo, I'm not sure this is so much of a slow speed issue, rather a dropout or loss of connectivity issue. Have you been noticing any symptoms of the connection dropping out, ie. DSL light on the router going out, when this occurs? Also, can you please try setting the MTU to 1400.

What is being shaped? Your P2P leeching or everything? Your best option is to lodge a support ticket with Exetel.
