The answers to be posted on this thread should be very interesting to me. I suspect that it may not make much difference, but I do not know that. I have a programmable thermostat, and have been saving money in a way that may be repugnant to most, but that works for me. Instead of programming it for comfortable temperatures, I have left the default temperatures in place, which use less energy during the daytime when most people are at work. In...

TV/Sound System Recommendations
Published (2009-11-28 22:50:00)
Nowadays, I do not care much about the audio from the TV. All I want is for the caption to be on. No, I do not think I am turning deaf, but do have problems understanding the dialog sometimes. Is it my premature aural deterioration (something to do with the brain, not the ears) or the actors and actresses no longer know to enunciate? Sorry for the sidetrack, but am I the only one not caring about surround sound? (I do have one but do not...

Moemg: Why don't you call their head office or regional office if they have one? Then sit back and watch how FAST you get your order completed. That's what I would do. Don't deal with the salesman or that office anymore. Just start climbing heads and go to the TOP head FIRST. You'll get some action then and fast. Unfortunately, salespeople are notoriously lazy often. The bad ones, anyway, and 5/8ths of any office are not...

Oh Boy! As we speak, DH is creating his fantasy audio visual system on paper. We know we want in-wall speakers as they keep the look so uncluttered. He's looking at all this THX rated stuff. It better sound good for classical music too! is what I tell him. Audrey

Quote: However, it really dosen't matter since our plan is for her to take her's in May at age 62, and I will delay mine till I turn 70 (current estimate is just under $3,100/mo, just for me). You might consider taking it at 62, then, at age 70, paying back what you've gotten and start at the new amount. That way, if you die at age 68, you'll have received $100,000 more than if you had waited.

I waited (literally) all day for the video to download over my dial-up connection. It got stuck at about 3:10 and I was never able to play it. What is it?

Al, I know you said "If there are two of you in your household, answer based on the average of your two numbers." in your post, but I think it would be a good idea to also include this in the poll instructions as well.

How do you heat?
In my case with a central heat pump, if the house temperature is too low compared to the thermostat setting, the heat packs (resistance heaters) would kick on. Heat packs are not as efficient as the heat pump of course, so that costs more. Additionally, my electric bill is on "demand rate", which in the winter costs more for the period from 5PM to 9PM.
YMMV. A lot!

Well, I'm no help here at all!! My iPhone is still invested in Vanguard because honestly, I haven't got around to buying one.
I am so old-fashioned that I am afraid I wouldn't use it as much as most people do, so I wouldn't get my money's worth out of it.

This is a really good deal. We already have the BA Chase card so don't qualify.
Once you are a member of the BA Club with this credit card, in any calendar year where you spend a minimum of $30k it entitles you to a free companion ticket when you redeem a frequent flyer award. So the levels on BA between West Coast USA and London are 50k for economy, 100k for business and 150k for First. ...

Buy a simple all-in-one Tuner/Amp/CD player at a garage sale or thrift store. Make sure it has a remote. Put a pair of small speakers right next to you on the couch. Our system like this makes TV dialog 100% easier to understand.
One problem is that the stereo is so effective, that sounds on the TV that are off to one side, sound like they are happening in our house. So, we often stop ...

My home is about 10 percent NW.
Cabin 10 percent NW.
Rental Properties about 13 percent NW.
That is about my comfort level when it comes to balancing my NW: 30 percent Real Estate.

No, low fat and low carb are MUCH different things. In fact, they are almost polar opposites.
I personally like the 40/30/30 approach of the Zone diet with a touch of South Beach (which some would call "Atkins Lite") -- all things in moderation, just try to make sure most of the carbs are from veggies and whole grains, and that most of the fats are unsaturated.
