Aidan's skin pales slightly at the sight of the contents of the web, looking about somewhat nervously. He sticks close to Lora, as always, regardless of her position as he readies his javelin and his sickle, 'ready for anything' as he looks about. He tries to conceal his nervousness, not wishing to appear a coward to the others present, though primarily his concern was looking like a coward in front of Lora. His adrenaline...

"Plot of an RPG" is a phrase very similar in meaning to "bucket made out of paper." If you want to use the term plotting in an RPG, and I don't because I think it confuses the issue, you can usefully - identify future events that will come to pass if the PCs do nothing - devise encounters that can occur even if the PCs do something - base future events on past occurences to suggest a kind of thematic...

Third Sunday of the month of Rova, 10 a.m.
In the bucolic town of Sandpoint along the western Varisian coast, folk have been up for hours busily preparing for the first day of autumn and the annual Swallowtail Festival. Along with the town's annual festivities intended to honor the region's bountiful harvests gifted by Erastil, today marks a date long looked to by the Sandpoint locals. ...

It is an obvious way to categorize the Powers of the World. There are the fighters and other hard bitten, plain, no nonsense men at arms. There are the gods and their fanatical and idealistic worshippers. There are the insane seekers of arcane secrets and forgotten horrors, delvers in things which ought not to be named. And then there are the barbaric spirits of ...

WotC is part of a large corporate with a lot of IP. There will be a fundamental tension between the RPG folks who know that custom content and sharing that content is a key part of building the brand and building brand loyalty and the legal folks who will see their job as protecting their IP no matter what.
In the first instance I think it is a mistake for people to constantly seek ...

2. Power cards. I play the same character week after week, but my powers are still just a bit too complicated for me to simply write them on my sheet and remember them. I need these danged cards, which have meager graphic design.
I wish they'd put some sort of background pattern in the green/red/black bars for powers. Like some simple theme to match the class you get the power from. Make them...

I have decided to try my hand at running a 4ed PbP . The Premise : The War of Usurpers has been raging on for years. In Cyre, her majesty the Queen employs every tool she can lay hands on to defend her realm and reclaim the Throne of Galifar to which she has the rightful claim: the Warforged of House Cannith, various Magebred creations from House Vadalis, the church of the Sovereign ...

There are some places on the web that I'nm sure people are running these tpye of games. I don't play PbP so I'm not sure were.
As to what game you should learn, it really depends to what you have access to and personal preference. I like mixing OSRIC and 1e as they go together well and one smooths over the other. Plus I like the feel of having the old books infront of me and for the ...

It's an interesting question, but I think the draw of some archaic words might strictly be in nostalgia. If you posed the same question, but instead said it wasn't written by EGG but instead by some writer last month, I think the answer would be clearly that those words would be for the most part not understood, and should be edited and changed.
I'm all for flavorful words, like in Magic the ...

It's not so much that WoW invents things, it just synthesizes them into something vastly different than the sum of the parts might suggest.
My question is the reverse of the OP: is there anything that WoW actually DID invent, and if so has any other game (online or P+P) used it?

I haven't got into 4e , but there is a couple of things about it that I like quite a bit.
Skill challenges: I like. A codified set of rules for dealing with non-combat encounters with enough ' wiggle-room' to make it your own.
Rituals: I like. Not so much the implementation, but the idea that it's a way to allow more powerful spells to PCs without having to worry about said spells ...

As to the at-will, it seems the intent is to give positioning capability, as well as a last-ditch way to give SA.
