Hey I was just curious, off the post about FEI allowing Bute... I noticed a post about Lasix. What is lasix and how is it used? When I received my papers for my OTTB, he was registered for a proper dose of Lasix. Can someone plese explain. Thanks!

Thanks for the links! I know how to measure for a blanket, but I'm finding with the different brands or in Pleasant Ridge's case--> when the shipment comes in (lol), they all seem to fit so differently! For rain sheets and winter turnouts, I like them a bit bigger in case I need to put it over another blanket. Hopefully I can find some used blankets, even if it's not until spring. Hopefully I can find a rain sheet before...

Nice job Bob, I'm going to get you out when I have to clip my guy! I truly hav eno talent when it comes to clipping. I've tried it a few times, I think the horses were pretty glad to have their blankets to hide it!

we have our farrier pull ours whenever they are due- after the start of December. (we hunt until the first week of December). we add biotin to the horses feed- get it at any feed store- just buy the straight biotin- not farriers formula etc- it is not too expensive and is much stronger- will encourage strong hoof growth. in your case Id just check with your farrier/vet beforeI remove the pads/shoe on the foot he cracked the coffin bone. we...

I agree with you to a large extent, minidonks. But what about the riding school owners. Are they supposed to keep every single schoolie they ever had until its death? What about a crash in the economy and subsequent bankruptcy? There are other scenarios too, but I don't think that a blanket statement can be applied the way you are applying it to the slaughter situation. Like it or not, there will always be slaughter, as you have said. And...

Rambos are way too expensive for me, which is why I stick to the cheaper horseware lines that fit almost exactly the same. The main difference is the fabrics used.

Dish soap and a hard tooth brush will get out a lot of grunge but may not make it look new depending on how bad it is!

Animal communicator, ask her to communicate with the calf she shows in the photo section of her website. Wonder what it has to say about being chased, roped and thrown to the ground, or what it feels like to have a 200lb man land on your back and throw you violentley to the ground, or are calfs not animals and have no feelings.

I personally would avoid them as they are toxic. Cedar and lavender works just as well.

You can take it to any MTO certified mechanic, but from my experiences
someone who has a bit of horse trailer knowledge would be a better choice.

Bedding usually ends up as wood shavings in southern Ontario. A very complex issue if horses have certain health issues. With hay- don't get hung up on bales needed. It is all weight.Buy by weight and feed by weight. How much the horse weighs and how much a bale weighs. And how good the hay is. Feeding is even more complex than bedding.

Budget for at least $1000 in vet fees for ultrasounds pre and post breeding, extra vaccines (eg Pneumabort boosters x 3 + pre foaling shots), vet checking the foal and mare after delivery. The ultrasounds themselves can add up quickly - and if she doesn't catch on the first breeding, expect to pay a second collection fee plus shipping (assuming it's AI). Assume extra costs in feed (usually ...

"Love" is not the word I would use. Horrified maybe. So far I've seen: - a break-up because someone spent their boyfriend's money on the farm without asking. - publicly making another barn look bad - general incompetence handling a horse (stallion turned out across from mares in heat, horses led very late etc). - jumping without a helmet right in the intro I know and understand that these ...

Vlad the stable-boy trembled as he scraped the sweat from his forehead, trying not to relive the terrifying events that led to his horrified scream. He had just finished mucking Horst's stall when something shiny in the corner caught his eye. His excitement grew as he recognized the shape of a ring. It appeared to be a man's gold ring with a tiger-eye stone in the centre, the kind hairy men ...

I actually am of the other mind. Save for one horse that was a little on the scary speedy side, I really enjoyed watching the riders this year. I went on the Tuesday night, so I may have seen a different set of rides then you ( I know they are the same riders but they may have gone differently). The only truly scary moments came during Townsends ride, and those were not rider errors, rather the ...

I had a CC and found it comfortable but the flap is really long, and I'm
really short so it didn't fit me very good. It fit my horse great though.
They're cheaply made but for a schooling/schooling show saddle they're
fine.

Last year I sent a horse out on lease who was half clipped. Clippers went dull after finishing half of him. Oops. Bloody blades were brand new. They were picking him up the next day, so... he left looking like a moth eaten rug. Thank god they thought it was hilarious and it was a spring clip so it wasn't TOO horrendous. I lie. Yes it was.
