[RTC] Tower of Champions
Published (2009-11-29 14:52:00)
I found a little error in the tower basement due to a missing trigger: when you go next to a windows in the hall of the champions, there is a trigger that activates the wind sound; near there should be another trigger that disables that sound, but I've forgotten, so you can hear the wind sound everywhere, also in the phantom cellar. Solution: this trigger should be in both the doors of the hall of champions, but it's missed only in...

The Changing Man

Wow. I just re-read this entire thread. Two years on and I'm back to feeling how I was in my first post. That's not at all good. It seems weird to be two years further down the line and to see that basically I didn't do any of the things I set out to do. The last two years freelancing have simply been one massive struggle in finding enough work to pay the bills. On top of that, I haven't yet got a decent social life so...

Dungeon Master Two Reborn?
Published (2009-11-29 23:06:00)
Watch that 'hunted' doesn't become 'frustrated'. One of the things that really annoyed me about DM2 was the minions. Not in a good challenging way, just in a a 'oh, thanks for not letting me actually explore in a game about exploration' way, where basically I was punished later for looking around earlier by more frequent minions before I could ever get into the tower to ZO the portals temporarily closed. It...

you to prefer the style dm1 or dm2?
Published (2009-11-28 08:04:00)
Haven't taken a look in the custom wallsets, but of course in a large dungeon the one or other set would be welcome. I did like the outdoor-areas in DM2, but not the caves. This was so far away from our beloved walls. In fact I never had the feeling that DM2 was Dungeon Master.

RTC Map Booter
Published (2009-11-29 23:49:00)
@Sophia: Creating just a shortcut to RTC and drag-dropping won't work (windows sends the full file path to RTC, and it cracks the s**ts) @Gambit: As to the filesize, this was a quick 5 minute application that I wrote for myself in Blitz3D. It would appear that Blitz bloats filesize quite a lot. But what can ya do? It does what I wanted it to do, and I have over 1.2TB in HDD space, so 1MB means absolutely nothing to me <grin>

I might add that I am going to put a progress box on my website. For now, I have done all the creatures except three, and the itempictures has to be renewed. When this is done, I have a fully playable Dungeon Master in 3D. The only problem is that my weakness is the 2D graphics. If anyone want to help my with the items and character pictures I would be truly greatfull. I think I will be able to ...

Decoration adds to the atmosphere - you only have to see Tower of Champions to get that feel. But a well designed DM1 dungeon can be very playable, especially with new items and such.

Wow, this looks impressive! I sadly don't have enough time to beta-test, but I am sure someone here will volunteer. Good luck with the dungeon, I'm looking forward to play it!

DM2 didn't seem to capture most people's imagination the way the originals did. I think because of this, no-one has really gone back to it to see how it might be improved. I think the main problem is that it came out pretty late and by the time it hit the market (in Europe and USA anyway), gamers were already well into the next generation of games like Doom. It came out in '93 in Japan, but with ...

Two new videos on my website. I have started tinkering with this again after playing DM for the 1000th time :O) I have now incorporated soft shadows & self shadowing which adds a little extra to the environment. Also, the game can now be played as an FPS or a flick screen. Thought I would let you guys know. PS Still looking for a 3D artist to create a creature for me. If anyone wants to ...

Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here! I think you are correct that you can only import characters from a savegame before the final fight. This is just the way it was done in original DM, so RTC is faithful to FTL's original in this regard. If you save the game right before fusing Chaos, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

The worm is a good one to start with. A knight would be far more difficult I assume.... Why not a screamer?

Sorry. My connection to the net was " unusable" for 3 days. As for your answer. I'll include in my tutorial map that I've started. I'm breaking down some of MY advanced mechanics (as much as I can). I started it 3 days ago, and I already have: - Reflective forceshield... sometimes bounces objects/spells back at you, sometimes makes spells explode, and it stops the party (functions like a door) ...

Do you mean a WALLITEM? These are "flipped" by the engine when on alternate walls.

The damage inflicted in an attack from ANY monster in RTC, is determined by the ATTACK_METHOD that it's using at the time. The "strength" box is a percentage... so activating a ATTACK_METHOD with CAST_SPELL, and SPELL_FIREBALL as the object_1, and strength 100, would create a MON (6th level) fireball that does about 300 hp damage.

I voted for equal balance - I think that the balance between these two elements was one of the main reasons why DM / CSB was (is) so popular. You have both real-time fights ("adrenaline" part) and complicated, sometimes even " Monkey-Island-style" puzzles ("brain" part). Concentrating on fights would create a slightly dumb Doom/Diablo shooter-killer, and concentrating on puzzles would remove most ...
