Pork?
Published (2009-11-20 10:22:00)
But so the pork at these farms, how are they treated? I mean, are they in a pen, since pigs can't be free range? (Right?) One of my local farms (well..like the only farm that's local with live mammals) has pork, and they're in stalls. I don't know if they get outside or what. Ok I laughed at the Lantis diarrhea incident and apologizing to the whole floor, sorry!!!! Oh I forgot to add I fed pork ears too. They seemed just...

Byron, that is awesome! (Not that Byron has been so sick, but that you have finally hit on something that is giving him some of his old spark back!) Go Byron!

Byron has lots of health problems - most notably intractable IBD. I tried everything to manage it and nothing worked, until I found the raw diet last year. It managed his symptoms for a healthy, robust 4-5 months, but then the problem crept back. Unfortunately I didn't know about the diet until he was 10, and the chronic diarrhea over 3-4 years had done a lot of damage. He also has arthritis, spinal spurs and Dog knows what else. Around...

Pork?

I think that it's not that pigs *can't be* free range, it's that if they are it's infinitely more time consuming and cleaning intensive. I mean, there's no law that says you have to pen pigs, is there? Anyway, certainly they weren't running around outdoors on green pastures, but they did have a (not green) small pasture and some stalls and what I believe to be adequate space. There weren't a million of them...

How good of a home do dogs need?
Published (2009-11-20 06:12:00)
Interesting topic Bunny! I have actually thought long and hard about this myself and have come to the conclusion that a home where the dog will be loved, provided food, water, and shelter, and taken to the vet when NEEDED, is good enough! Dogs are such adaptable and loyal creatures that as long as they are loved and cared for, they will love back. Whether or not they eat premium food, go to dog parks, etc. I came to this conclusion when I was...

My country pups are living in an apartment for the winter, and because of better biking areas, are getting more excercise than ever! And if I had MY way, we'd be living in Little Five Points in a loft, and there's PLENTY of bike riding space in the ATL. However, no lofts take horses... I think everyone who reads my posts knows I live in the country, but what most people don't know is that I don't like living in the country....

Fish Oil? How much?
Published (2009-11-19 20:54:00)
Zoey, it sounds like you could also benefit from some fish oil in your diet! It's good for all dogs, but especially for those with skin/coat issues.

Herding cars

Lol Chandler, our AC consists of city workers (water, electric, maintenance) going to wrangle a stray or two during their breaks if they're nearby. I doubt they'd even TRY to catch this guy if they came upon him.

Here's another picture where ya'll can see his "tuck" and everything. (Please excuse the fact that I look like I was going to the prom... My husband is in the USMC and our ball was last weekend). Bam-Bam is normal as a mastiff in that his height and size come from depth of body (notice how deep his chest is, and that from his elbow to his back is half of his height). Another Sroll Over

conquered "focus"!

Good job, Henry. The BC can have a really intense stare, so once they get focus, they are very good at it. Now you need to proof it.

Pieces of chicken generally do not resemble a live, pecking around type of chicken. There's usually very little issue with things like this. I guess I could see if you fed a lot of whole fur-on/feather-on prey but still, it doesn't move (which usually entices prey drive), and comes from a different place (ie... my dogs think lunch comes from the magical fridge).

You have a husky that is quiet Didge never shuts up. I have trained her to speak using a clicker and her fave treats, schmackos. Basically i showed her the treat, so she new it was training time. Then she proceded to do everything she new, that normally gets her a treat. she gets frustrated, barks. i click and treat. repeated it a few times, added the command talk and that was that.

Good Morning All,
Levi, the door is always open here and we always share. You and anyone else are welcome anytime. Hoping the family is just suffering a slight touch of the bug and everyone is better soon.
Flicka Mum, vacation time is drawing near and we are praying that no matter how you feel it goes well and you have a wonderful, fabulous time. Both of you.

You should probably go to the vet. She should have been going the whole time she has been pregnant to make sure the pups are progressing. Kinda like a pregnant human. They can do an ultrasound for you.

I don't personally. But when mine are wearing their collars (on rare occasions when we're in town or something) they've got a minimum of like four ID tags on them lol, one with my address and phone number, a microchip tag, a rabies tag and a city license tag. Their name is irrelevant to them getting home which is why I prefer to leave it off. I think a lot of people would be tempted to keep a ...

Ahh, there it is though. I've noticed that the more recent seasons don't have alpha roles and such. It's much more based on being calm and in control. I'm wondering if they realized a bunch of morons were all trying to inappropriately alpha role their rotties and getting their hands chomped off?

I agree! I've learned more about dogs in general, and troubled dogs in particular... I've have to read more, and ask more questions; and I've had to reach within myself to find the patience and creativity to give these dogs a better life. Even if my dogs were magically "cured" tomorrow, I've gained insight that can't be measured. Perhaps my life would be easier with different dogs, but it ...

It would have to be the CKCS for me or the Lowchen. However the CKCS health problems turn me off a great deal. They have always been my mums favourite breed of dog and as a result i have grown up hearing alot about them and i must admit i've never met an unhappy Cav.
To me both the Lowchen and CKCS would be ok sizes for me out of the toy breed.

Sorry that this had happened and your vet is not helping to work with you on your raw diet. So you are 100% sure he got salmonella and clostridium perfringens from his raw?
ETA, I read this on line:
"C. perfringens is found in soil, dust and the gastrointestinal tracts of animals and man."
So, not from the raw diet?
"C. perfringens can exist as a heat-resistant spore, so it may ...

dang it! you could have gone to petfooddirect.com as they were having a first 25 lbs free shipping sale. it's really hard to locate where they sell it, as whole earth farms does not have a main website. I have it at my local feed store, but im in california so that wouldn't help much at all. we'll keep looking.

I'm not sure about the animal testing, but if you're looking for a better food, I would start with reading Sedona's thread 'so you are confused by dog food'. I bumped it up to the top.
