Dogs' first dental set for Dec
Published (2009-11-13 07:23:00)
We do what is called a "total body-function" in pre-surgery bloodwork. It tests everything under the sun. Reasons for us not to put an animal under anesthesia would be elevated liver and kidney enzymes and severe anemia. I do the dentals at my hospital and I tend to keep them on the "light" side unless extractions are necessary - this way they wake up really quick. At 7 years of age, that is when we start...

Dogs' first dental set for Dec
Published (2009-11-13 05:02:00)
I have the worst phobia about surgery, so it's carried over with my poochies. They're finally going in for their first dental at 7 years of age! The vet has always checked their teeth on their yearly visits and hasn't recommended anything be done til now. What kind of blood work do they do before surgery and what can I expect when I pick them up afterward? Regarding bloodwork, is there any indicator for them not to have...

Recently, this past month, my CS started panting a lot, out of normal, like he was thirsty. He has access to water at all times of the day, unless he's crated, which is rare, but even then I have someone come down several hours a day to let him out, feed, water, play, etc with him. When he does...

We do offer titers but they are kind of pricey for some people. The way the vaccine protocols are set up now the vaccines are pretty spaced out as it is and we just revised ours even more since my Dr. is on the holistic side - here is what we do: Da2lpp (no lepto for Dachshunds) - every 3 years (in puppies, they get their series of 3 and then the third one is good for 3 years) Rabies - ...

I recommend taking him in to be checked by your vet - including bloodwork. There is nothing specific that is jumping out at me with his symptoms so it's best to have bloodwork done to rule out anything internal. Good luck!

Welcome to the board. The best things that you can do for a dog with her issues is to 1. keep her weight on the lower side so that joint impact is minimized and 2. keep her on the glucosamine/chondroiten supplement. The foods that have glucosamine in them generally do not have enough to be therapeutic, they are more for marketing purposes than anything. Another thing you can add is omega 3 ...

The latest research on Lyme is that 30 days should be sufficient for treating it. It is possible that she also has some arthritis that can be associated with lyme - is she on any supplements such as glucosamine/chondroiten? You can also try a little aspirin (no advil or tylenol), one adult tablet per 50 lb. If she seems really stiff, you should consult with your vet and possibly get ...

It depends on if you want the medication to be just topical or if you want it to be systemic (into the body...) Capstar and Program (not even sure if they even still make Program) are pills that go into the body. Capstar works very fast and is great if you have an infestation. Frontline and Advantix are the topical ones that are guaranteed to be only topical and they both work very well, ...
