Re: No fence no dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think a fence is necessary for raising a puppy or keeping a medium to large breed dog. Mina and Upendi are both extremely active and doG knows I love my long line. It's thirty foot and gives them free access to the entirety of the yard without a fence. They get out and run, play fetch, frisbee, etc. all without a fence. Quite frankly, even if we did have a fence I wouldn't...

Re: uga died Yeah I'm only a fan of the cute dog myself... I don't really follow college football but I know a lot of UGA (and gator ) fans. Its sad because I don't think this uga was that old... he only mascotted (if thats even a word) for one season.

I would also take a look at Ali Brown's Website. Google her, she specializes in fear rehab. She also has books and I believe DVD's available. http://www.greatcompanions.info/ www.fearfuldogs.com is also a great resource for info on behaviour modification for anxious/fearful dogs. But yes, creating a safe place (her crate maybe?) in a quiet area of the house for her to go to when management is necessary and have it available to her...

Re: No fence no dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think it's meaningless. KaseyT is just mentioning there are ways to have a dog without a yard and to have very well adapted and well exercised dogs. He's not saying everyone in an apartment does this but that it is possible and there are people that do. Imo it would benefit rescuers and people placing dogs to know this and maybe think about possibly talking to individuals...

temperature of food?

It should be fine. Many raw feeders around here feed still frozen raw meat to the dogs and it works fine. They eat it and digest it the same. I guess some dogs with sensitive stomachs could have a problem with it but I honestly haven't met one yet. I mean they all love ice cream and it doesn't seem to make them sick because of the coldness. The sugar and diary in it is a whole other story though! But feeding cold fruits should be...

Hey, I'm in.
I live alone so support is hard to come by.
My biggest issue is eating GOOD food and eating enough of it. I weigh too much because I eat too little and then it's not good stuff. So..I've been working on having a good breakfast (omelette, yogurt with fibre cereal added) etc and that helps keep me on an even keel.
I would like to lose 20lbs or so. Really more about my ...

Re: 900 Greyhounds in IMMEDIATE need of Adoption!!! I never understand why do greyhounds go homeless when I track closes? are the greyhounds housed at the track? I was under the impression they were owned by people who kept kennels on their land. *shrug* I thought it was more like horse racing I guess.

Alright alright, I'll join in.
A little about me: I love puppy raising, but would love to own a pet dog sometime. I am 14, homeschooled, have five siblings, and hope to be involved with handicapped kids when I "grow up." Right now I'm helping out with a five year old with downs during church services, and I am LOVING it. I will hopefully train service dogs (Like be the actual instructor, ...

Ridiculous adoption requirements I think sometimes rescues go overboard with trying to find the "perfect" home. I won't name names, but one particular rescue IMO has some (not all) over the top requirements. It doesn't surprise me that they have 17 pages of dogs for adoption, because they probably very rarely adopt any out. Here are the requirements:
*Dogs will not be placed in ...

Hmmm... pardon me if I come across a little rude because it's totally not my intent, but I have both cats and dogs and don't find the cats to be any cleaner than the dogs. I mean, the cats step in their litterbox and bury their droppings using their paws... they dig around in the box and probably hit patches of urine and poo while doing so (unless you're right behind them with a scoop every ...

I would get an alarm system and a gun.
I believe in guard/protection dogs very much but they are not your only means of protection nor is it solely their job to protect. You work as a team with your dog and the dog can only do so much. There are armed intruders and those which are not scared of dogs/will fight. You need to be the one who aids the dog and takes the guy out. As well if you ...

GET THE DOG!
It is quite clear to me, (maybe to others) you're already smitten when you gushed over this "prospect".
I asked my father, who had three dogs of his own (well- my step-mothers), "How do you feel with a fourth dog in the house?" He said, "Honestly, I've managed three, if I can handle that what's another number?" I don't know why, but it makes ...

I want a Pug (random post) Not the kind of dog I usually go for at all, but I've thought they were cute for a while, even before the shelties. Lately though I've really been wanting one. A Pug with a bunch of sheepdogs? Weird combination? Anyone care to compare and contrast?

The Crested standard calls for it, though currently only the foreign standards (FCI, CKC) say so explicitly. You can usually tell the difference between dogs bred in the U.S. and Europe just by their ear shape and set. The U.S dogs tend to have smaller, higher ears.
It's interesting how just a tiny difference in wording between standards can result in differences in the same breed like that!
