Hello there, I'm new to the forum in hoping that you could answer my question :] Well, we got our dog and he's only 4 months old and have had him since he was about 2 months. He's doing pretty well at the moment for his age. Actually he's doing extremely well, minus the issue that I'm about to lead to. We've got him to sit, he does it automatically if he wants something. We take him off ...

I am currently trying to teach Moko to retrieve, and his favorite game is keep away with the toy, so it is a challenge. I do not chase him when he wants to be chased, I just wait for him to settle, or I bring another toy into the game and switch them off. Do you have any suggestions on how to teach fetch?

IMO Inbreeding in dogs is one of the most misunderstood aspects of dog breeding among those who haven't studied canine genetics. And it's so frustrating to hear the same mantra repeated over and over in those reports by those who wouldn't know how to read or understand a pedigree if it was glued to their forehead. Inbreeding with dogs cannot in any way be equated with inbreeding in humans. ...

Sugs said : " But we're talking about DOMESTIC DOGS here, NOT wolves....Dogs aren't wolves and contrary to what many people believe, they don't behave like wolves. Ask any biologist or behaviorist who has worked with both " I mustn't turn this into a "dogs are wolves" discussion, but I would say this. Would you agree that dogs share 99.8% (virtually 100%) DNA with wolves? This means ...

As the heading says I thought long an dhard before positng this due to the fact that f at present feelings are running high re Pedigree Show dogs and Crufts. I do not want this to turn into a discussion on Crufts, which is why I also did not really know where to post it and chose Hounds. I had said to Applesmom in a pm of my indecision to post this and after listening to what she had...

Tonight theres a good documentary/popular science programme. It looks very interesting. Martin Clunes - A Man and his Dogs Part one of two. The actor explores the ancient ancestry of domestic dogs and discovers why their relationship with humans has been so successful. Travelling across the globe, from dog shows in London to the wilderness of the Australian outback, he unravels the links ...
