Dual Exhaust on 98 dakota
Published (2009-11-28 13:42:00)
In California, you could replace anything.......that is 'state' approved. And little is approved. I didn't change the cat on my Dakota, when I added the Flowmaster, because I was told the one that came with the truck was pretty darn good already. I did put a new 'performence' cat on when the original broke because backfiring, caused by the wore-out valve. MPG was identical with the stock. Moral; save your money.

The throttle body made a nice difference on my truck. With just headers and ecm, when I put my new throttle boy on the truck instantly hit the rev limiter. I went to Thefastman.com for mine he has ported stock ones. I also picked up about 1.5 mpg. One of my favorite mods.

No matter what Make or model you go with, they all have their bad apples or stealerships wouldn't have service departments.

The old tires look cupped, should have your front end checked out/aligned. Especially with new tires.

either your PCM needs to learn to idle again or your IAC needs to be cleaned. It controls the idle and its on the back of the TB. It gets carboned up bad and really needs to be cleaned every year or 2.

It is VERY hard on the newer vehicles to get "true dual" exhaust. They under carriage does not allow for the driver side exhaust to come back on the driver side and there is hardly space for it to come down the passenger side with the other one. You can do it but it usually gets in the way of working on other stuff in the future. Single inlet/dual outlet muffler is the most common way to to get ...

I did mine when I had the maniflod off for the plenum gasket. I cleaned it real good then used them rolled sandpaper things and a cordless drill to just remove the hourglass shape from the TB. Then rounded the upper edge with sandpaper. Didnt take too long as the aluminum is soft and removes easily. I cant say I noticed a lot of extra power, but throttle responce was/is awesome. Good luck.

Theres a lower and upper ball joint. I had the lowers replaced and that helped a bit but I think I shoulda got both done at the same time. Too bad its such a PITA to replace. Try jackin the wheel off the ground and shaking it 12 oclock to 6 oclock. Shouldnt be any slop or you may have a wheel bearing problem.

First of all, quit being stupid and quit drinking.
I bought a used 1999 Dakota andit had 2 chipped teeth on the the axle. For nearly the same price as the axle gears, I got a completelimited slip gear set and I swapped over ring gear to the new assembly and it works great in the snow.
Make sure you clean out all the metal from everything before reassembly, and use the correct gear lube for...
