Paper chains at school with "lanterns" fashioned from a square of Gloy gummed paper -you folded it in half, made cuts along the folded edge, unfolded it again and stuck it round into a cylinder - the folded cut edge stuck out in the middle with 'slats'. A little strip of gummed paper stuck across the top for a handle! Tinsel! Loads of it! Egg carton "cups" painted, filled with Das, with little...

I remember the satin balls and the paper ones...the paper chains that my mam used to hang across the ceiling ..and the wee trees that you'd open up. I remember we had to make decorations for school for homework one Christmas. I cut out the roundy bits from egg cartons and covered them with tin foil to make little bells .

I had a chip shop meat pie in a barm cake after someone started talking about them at work. Nice if a little hard to digest, didn't need much else to eat that day. When there wasn't much snackage around the house I used to have a small glass of oats with a pinch of sugar. A kind of granular chunch bar.

That's brought back some memories! I was one of those pony mad girls, and probably had most of the "Jill" books. I also enjoyed books by the Pullein-Thompson sisters, Pat Smythe, Monica Dickens (The "Follyfoot" series) Monica Edwards and Joyce Stranger.
Think I would quite like to re-read them......

I remember, 'This town ain't big enough...' and 'Get in The Swing' that guy in your picture used to be scary as he never sung and just gave these odd looking sideways glances into the camera. I thought they were ok but not fanatically. Doesn't the guy in your photo Claudine look a bit like Mad Frankie Fraser??? No offence Claudine, ...or, ..er, Mad Frankie.

Why oh why did they do away with 'nutty' bars? I'd have kept them in business all by myself!

eco, this is so strange. I was only thinking about this movie the other day! I loved it at the time - I especially recall the kind of 'lazy trumpet' sound used in some of the score.
Would love to see it again.
EDIT: That's a fascinating site you linked to.

A wonderful film! Lawrence Naismith, Diana Dors and a beautiful musical score.
The fire scene was incredible.
Can't help regarding spoiler tags, but I don't think you have to include them when talking about an old film like this.

I definitely remember Fortean TV. I believe it was connected to the publication Fortean Times, though I may be wrong... I do know that Rev has been known to contribute to that great magazine on occasion..
TV Offal rings a bell but, apart from that, I don't really remember much about it.

Not alone. I have no idea what the game was called, but I think I've mentioned it on here before. I used to watch my older sister and her friends playing this.. I tried to do it (like skipping), but never could get the hang of it.

Pepe, Escape Into Night scared the living daylights out of me when I was a kid - my most vivid memory was of the boy and girl in a lighthouse with the stones getting closer and closer around them. the stuff of nightmares for me at the time!
