The only way to really do this with the NTBackup program is to do it with the clunky Automated System Recovery (ASR) or to cleanly reinstall Windows and then do a complete restore which includes the System State Data. ASR doesn't work with XP Home, you need XP Pro to use ASR. In my opinion using a disk imaging program is by far an easier and better bare metal restore solution. I prefer and use Terabyte's Image for Windows...

Hello there. Has anyone had any success deploying or creating WIMs for Windows XP using MDT 2010. Is there any documentation out there other than what is in MDT 2010? I have just started using MDT 2010 on a new Windows Server 2008 X64 and attempted to create a WIM for Windows XP SP3 and I have received an unusual error. Error: The \\*SERVERNAME*\Deploymentshare$\Operating Systems\Windows XP Professional SP3\SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY.CAB...

I purchased windows vista ultimate a while back and wasnt too pleased with it, and recently I decided to do a system restore, and instead of restoring with vista, I figured id try my hand at using the oem disc that came with the computer (xp home). Well all was running how it should until windows xp was copying the setup files, for instance it says: "Setup cannot copy the file: xmlp_beu.xdr" among a few others. It...

Did you format during the Install? You could try washing the disk with soap and water, rinse thoroughly and dry with paper towel. I have around 175 public use machines out in the field, a hodge-podge of various IBM and Dell systems running XP with service pack 3 and the latest updates. I am trying to roll out an updated Disk Image with MS Steady State 2.5 and some other updates and enhancements to these machines. They are in various remote locations, not attached to our corporate network (and we don't want them to be) but available for remote maintenance...

Leave the drive with Win2K connected. Set the cdrom drive to be
first boot device in Bios. Boot from the WinXP CD and
during the installation select the second drive as WinXP OS drive.
That's all you need to do. WinXP will add Win2K to it's
bootloader and you will have a choice between which OS you want to use.
