Demoting old DC in...
Published (2009-11-26 11:42:00)
Hello polilop, If you have all migrated to the new domain what you need to remove the trust. Now you can demote the source domain DCs. As you have already created a new domain, you should have on that one all FSMOs available. The source domain FSMOs wan't be migrated to the new one. You can check with "netdom query fsmo" in a command prompt on the new domain, to be sure they are on the new DCs. Best regards...

Sounds like you understand that protected groups are causing the inherit flag to be unchecked. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2009.09.sdadminholder.aspx What you haven't defined is what you want the users who are in protected groups to be able to do once they have been removed from these groups. It really is not possible to tell you what the specific permissions a protected group has. Just define what you need...

Published (2009-11-25 17:52:00)
we have computers that are built on a lab subnet, then put into production when it is finished. we've found that when we move the computers from one subnet to another, they do not register their -new- IP address for a few days (there are no problems with the initial registration, and that is the entry that remains when it is moved) I'm thinking this might have something to do with the 2003 refresh interval settings and if...

I can understand rebooting after the authoritative restore is done, but my question was regarding having to reboot the DC into DSRM in order to perform the authoritative restore. According to the documentation I shouldn't have to do this, all I should have to do is stop AD DS and then perform the authoritative restore. Again from my experience I always have to restart the DC in DSRM first "Paul Bergson...

Hello viktor_0104,
Remove the x.x.1.x form the NIC of the DCs and configure it as a FORWARDER

Hello Whiteford,
Configure the DC with the PDCEmulator FSMO to an external time source:
w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:PEERS /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
With "PEERS" you can set the time source, either DNS name ( time.windows.com)
or an ip address from a reliable time source.
Here you can find some of ...

How are you moving the OU? Are you by any chance doing it from an another
system running Vista/Win2k8 with UAC in place?
Have you actually checked Effective Permissions?
