  Hello polilop, If you have all migrated to the new domain what you need to remove the trust. Now you can demote the source domain DCs. As you have already created a new domain, you should have on that one all FSMOs available. The source domain FSMOs wan't be migrated to the new one. You can check with "netdom query fsmo" in a command prompt on the new domain, to be sure they are on the new DCs. Best regards...

Windows 2008 DSRM in...

  I can understand rebooting after the authoritative restore is done, but my question was regarding having to reboot the DC into DSRM in order to perform the authoritative restore. According to the documentation I shouldn't have to do this, all I should have to do is stop AD DS and then perform the authoritative restore. Hello viktor_0104, Remove the x.x.1.x form the NIC of the DCs and configure it as a FORWARDER or use directly the ISPs DNS server as Forwarders in the DNS server properties in the DNS management console. AFter this run ipconfig /flush dns and ipconfig /registerdns on both machines and restart the netlogon service or reboot....
